Judging by the reactions of some fans following the announcement of a TV remake of Dirty Dancing, not everyone is happy with the idea of giving a new spin to such a classic. But as the cast has been progressively unveiled, it's good to see that several convincing names are now attached to the project.
Because the news of the castings has been sprinkled here and there, here's a little roundup of who has been confirmed to play Johnny, Baby, et al:
1. Abigail Breslin — Baby
The classic role of Baby has been given to the young actress from Little Miss Sunshine and Scream Queens.
2. Colt Prattes — Johnny
The Broadway actor and dancer will be the one filling out Johnny's black tank top. Hopefully this role will be as career-defining for him as it was for the late Patrick Swayze!
3. Sarah Hyland — Lisa
The Modern Family star was the latest addition to the already solid cast. She'll be playing Baby's high-maintenance sister, who is somewhat less enchanting on the dance floor.
4. Nicole Scherzinger — Penny
As a former member of The Pussycat Dolls, Scherzinger has already proved that she's got what it takes to play a dance teacher.
5. Debra Messing — Marjorie Houseman
The Will & Grace actress stepped in as Baby's mother.
The TV Remake Will Be Three Hours Long
Jessica Sharzer of American Horror Story will adapt the story for the small screen, with original screenwriter Eleanor Bergstein on board as executive producer. The choreography will be supervised by Tony Award-winning Andy Blankenbuehler, from Broadway's latest success, Hamilton.
