Ever since it was revealed in Captain America: The Winter Soldier that Hydra had Howard Stark killed, speculation has arisen that it was Cap's best friend, Bucky, whom Hydra used to act as assassination. As the go-to, brainwashed assassin for Hydra it would certainly make sense... but is Bucky really to blame?

In a recent interview on the set of Captain America: Civil War, screenwriters Stephen McFeely & Christopher Markus skirted around the burning question, stating:

"It is in play that Hydra killed Howard Stark. I think we can say that. I think that’s all we know for sure, and Bucky killed a lot of people. I mean, that’s perhaps more important, is like, when Bucky wakes up, or gets some semblance of his humanity back -- if he were to get some semblance of his humanity back -- how does he feel about the long list of kills on his record, you know?"

Well that's super helpful guys. Thanks.

However, Sebastian Stan was able to offer a bit more insight into his character and his role in Civil War. When asked about the inner turmoil Bucky is dealing with, Stan said:

"I’m just trying to tie in to what we know in the comic books. I think it’s going to be a mix of different things. He’s (Bucky) not gonna go back and be the guy he used to be. There’s just no way that would happen. He’s definitely, probably affected for life. It’s sort of learning about how you live with who you are now. Learning how to tame that wild beast that is a part of you at this point."

When asked about the Winter Soldier's role in Howard Stark's death and if that might somehow play into the conflict with Iron man, he said:

"I feel like it’s pretty given if you know the comics. He’s in a place where he’s not very stable or healthy environment in his head. So he could easily go either way."

In the comics, Howard and Maria were killed in a car crash that occurred on their way home. This was made to look like an accident, but it is later revealed that their car was shot at, causing it to swerve off the road, resulting in the fatal crash...

We all know the Winter Soldier is an expert marksman. Could he have been the gunman responsible for causing the Stark's car to mysteriously crash?

While we don't have any definitive answers yet for which way the film will go concerning the Winter Soldier's involvement in the assassination of Tony Stark's parents, the evidence does suggest that a brainwashed Bucky was somehow involved.

Hopefully we will know some answers soon, but until then sit back and keep the Captain America: Civil War trailer on replay. Seriously. It's that good.

Answers are coming. 'Civil War' hits theaters May 6th 2016.

What do you think? Is The Winter Soldier responsible for killing Tony's parents?
