The traditional superhero team is so OVERRATED. It may be fun to watch Superman and Batman try to meet their moral pursuits for life while simultainously dealing with villains who only want to kill. But audiences want a change, and in 2016 we're going to get it. Suicide Squad hit theaters in August in 2016, and DC comics' most infamous group of antiheroes are going to get the chance to save the day. This is another part of a series of articles breaking down the members of the Task Force X and what role they'll play in the SKWAD. The next squad member may be one of the most outspoken and cocky members of the squad who turned a child's toy into a deadly weapon.
Name: George "Digger" Harkness
Alter-Ego: Captain Boomerang
Ever since he was a child, George Harkness never knew his real father, a toy manufacturer in the US, and was forced to grow up in a household with a mother and stepfather who despised him. Despite his rough upbringing, this Aussie antagonist learn that he was born with a natural born talent for swinging a boomerang. While growing up, Harkness honed and perfected the art of boomeranging, and that was the key to the success of his first robbery when he turned 18. He donned the name "Captain Boomerang" after he won a job at his father's toy company as a mascot for the Australian staple. Harkness was later fired, so he kept the name and pursued a life of crime.
- Boomerang Skills: His name gives away his weapons preference, but Harkness' weapon of choice is more than just a simple children's toy. Captain Boomerang has an uncanny ability with just a simple boomerang, but he has developed the ability to modify the toy into a dangerous and lethal weapon.
- Hand-To-Hand Combat: He may be gifted with a boomerang, but Harkness is a forced to be reckoned with when it comes to a fist fight. In the 2014 animated film, Batman: Assault on Arkham, Captain Boomerang and his fellow squad member, Deadshot, spend a majority of the film up in arms, fighting for control of the group, with Boomerang giving Deadshot a run for his money.
- Selfishness: Being self-oriented and confident isn't always a bad thing, but in a team it can be a pain in the ass. Captain Boomerang's selfishness could be the undoing of the squad because he could turn his back on his team in the moment they need him the most.
Anti-heroes are the new heroes! After the heroes fail to save the day, then it's going to be up to the villains and wrong-doers to stop the world from plunging to the chaos. And if this can't stop evil, no one can.
