Golly!!! As if I wasn't excited enough for this movie, they had to go and release this new trailer! If you have not seen it yet, I strongly urge you to do so!
Now I might be a little late getting an article like this out there, but here are a few things that we can take away from this trailer. Y'all ready to dive on in? Let's go!
First thing we see in the trailer is this snowy location which is presumably the location of whatever facility that Bucky/Winter Soldier is either hiding in or being held prisoner in.
This could just be an entirely different place, but the trailer leads us to believe that this is in fact that base.
The next thing we see is the inside of the facility or base, where two armed guards are opening a huge reinforced door into where Bucky is being held.
The amount of security here leads me to believe that he is in fact being held a prisoner and not here of his own free will.
Also, inside of the doors, I thought I saw the Hydra insignia in red on the wall. Maybe I was just seeing things, but food for thought.
On the shoulder of one of the guards there is a patch. I couldn't make out the letters on the bottom, but on top it says POCCHR (with the "R" backwards). This means Russia in the Cyrillic alphabet. So, Winter Soldier is being held prisoner by a group of Russians.
But this makes me think that they are not really Hydra because Hydra is primarily a German organization. But maybe they've been forced to expand a bit due to all the major set-backs they've had in past movies and in Agents of SHIELD.
Now we see General Thaddeus E. "Thunderbolt" Ross presenting to Cap, Black Widow, Sam Wilson aka Falcon, and Scarlet Witch the need to give the superhero community some limitations and more supervision to avoid any further catastrophes.
If you've read any comics with Gen. Ross, you know that he's not afraid to take on even the strongest of superheroes, so maybe we'll get to see him in action!
Perhaps with the reappearance of this character in the MCU, we'll get to see his alter-ego Red Hulk in a movie or two somewhere down the line, but I don't think so.
He goes on to show them footage from the Battle of New York (Avengers), Hydra's attack on Washington DC (CA: Winter Soldier), and of the Ultron Offense in Sokovia (Avengers: Age of Ultron).
With the total casualties from all three events coming to 274 people killed, and 495.6 billion dollars worth of property damage, is no wonder the government is seeking to remedy their current situation.
While the exact details of their remedy are unknown, we do know that Tony Stark/Iron Man will be in charge.
After getting a list of major catastrophes from previous films, we get a glimpse of one from this film.
The explosion is taking place at some kind of important political get-together, perhaps it was even where they were discussing what to do about the rapidly increasing number of superfolk and the trouble they always bring.
I'm thinking this explosion will serve a similar purpose as the one Nitro served in the comic. Nitro is a villain that turns into a giant bomb. During a battle with some heroes, he blew up outside a school and killed several kids in the process. This was the tipping point that caused the government to push forward with restricting superheroes' freedom. I predict the explosion in the trailer will have a similar effect.
Or maybe this room wasn't the target. It could have been hit by a stray missile from Iron Man,
or one of Winter Soldier's stray grenades.
But it was most likely meant to be that room. I'm just thinking out loud.
We do know one person who was caught in the explosion and that person is T'Challa, son of T'Chaka, prince (or maybe king) of Wakanda! (an African country where vibranium comes from, the metal Cap's shield is constructed from)
T'Challa is the superhero Black Panther, but also being the ruler, or son of the ruler of Wakanda makes it very likely for him to be present here.
And I predict while the cops are trying to find the attacker, T'Challa spots Bucky fleeing the scene. He dons his vibranium laced costume and chases after him.
We see him pursing Bucky at top speed in the trailer, but whether or not this chase takes place directly after the explosion is yet to be determined.
Being a direct victim of the collateral damage caused by superheroes, it makes sense he'd join Iron Man's side in the war.
But did Bucky blow up that room? In the first trailer he says that he doesn't do that kind of thing anymore. If we believe what he says then who else could've done it?
Well, I think he somehow caught wind of the Russians' plan to blow up the building while he was still a prisoner. Being reformed, he knew he had to stop them. He breaks out, warns Cap about the bomb, and then goes to try and stop it himself.
Him warning Cap would explain how Cap is there during that chase scene between Black Panther and Bucky. We see him running close behind in both trailers.
After seeing that he was too late, he gets on his bike and leaves, but that's when Black Panther sees him. Thinking he planted the bomb, he chases after him.
The next stage of the trailer shows a giant structure emerging from the water. Inside, we see several what look like prison cells.
This looks to me like the film adaptation of The Raft. In the comics, the Raft was a prison built by SHIELD to house super villains and it looks like that's exactly what we see in the trailer.
And this part was just cool!
Although many movie-goers may not be devastated if James Rhodes/War Machine gets killed, not being a huge fan-favorite, but rest assured that Iron Man would be heart broken should his best friend perish.
I think that War Machine will in fact be killed off in this movie. The Comic series Civil War had Goliath killed by Thor's clone during one of their battles to show the intensity and seriousness of the situation. If they want the movie to follow the comic book at all, they'll need such a moment to provide a similar feel for how serious things are.
One person who hasn't shown up much is Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow. One thing we do see of her in the trailer is Iron Man telling her that "they" will be coming after her. She replies, "I'm not the one who needs to watch their back."
Who exactly is "they", why are they coming after her and is she almost threatening Stark?
It's almost as if she is switching sides. We know she's on Stark's side because we see her alongside him when both teams collide, but maybe she changes her mind.
Or maybe Black Widow is playing a similar role to the one Tigra played in the Civil War comic. Tigra was a spy for Iron Man within Captain America's ranks and perhaps Black Widow is filling her shoes in the movie. We all know that being a spy isn't something too far out of the realm of possibility for Black Widow at all!
And in the trailer, Iron Man could've simply been saying to be careful on this assignment he gave her. And she could've simply been saying that she would be fine.
Then we see Cap telling Iron Man that it doesn't have to end in a fight. It then cuts to Iron Man (who looks like he's been crying a bit) totally sucker punch Cap, sending him spinning through the air.
This maybe be after Rhodes dies? That would explain why he was crying and is so uptight.
And this skirmish takes place in the same base where Bucky was being held. Jus throwing that out there.
In the middle of Black Panther and Bucky's fight on the roof, their interrupted by a helicopter shooting at them. Bucky moves out of the way and the chopper seems to stay with Panther, indicating he was the target.
I'm just curious who it is in the chopper. Maybe just the government. You can let me know in the comments who you think it is.
Two of the Avengers' newest members, Scarlet Witch and Vision find themselves becoming opponents almost as soon as they became allies. Also some of the most powerful of the characters in this movie, it could be interesting to see where this battle leads.
For those of you who don't know, Vision and Scarlet Witch become romantically involved in the comics.
Seeing the two of them fighting each other alone could mean that MARVEL will play on their relationship from the comics a bit and they will make peace with each other, which could help lead to some sort of resolution between both teams by the end of the movie.
Now, not a whole lot of information...at all is given on Hawkeye. He never says anything, no one says anything about him, and we hardly see him do anything except fire an amazing new trick arrow. It'll be interesting to see how he will contribute to the story and how he'll even get pulled out of his retirement into this.
I for one am a huge Hawkeye fan and wish to see him finally be used to his full potential. In the comics you can find him going toe to toe with even the Hulk!
I'm worried that he's simply going to be a side character who will be there just for the sake of having more characters. Hopefully though that is not the case.
Let me know in the comments which of you are Hawkeye guys! Or gals. There can be Hawkeye gals too. I just said 'guys' because it rhymes.
You thought Hawkeye was hardly there? Well at least he got more screen time than MARVEL's newest addition to the MCU, Ant-Man.
Although his time in the trailer is brief, it's awesome! We see him riding in on one of Hawkeye's arrows and then land on Iron Man's arm.
We can actually see this happen a few times in the comics and cartoons. Ant-Man will mount an arrow head and Hawkeye will send him flying.
So it was just fun to see that reference to the comics in there. I'm really excited to see what Ant-Man will do in this movie. I foresee a lot of awesome stunts coming from him!
Blink and you'll miss this returning side villain Crossbones punching Cap in the face!
Back in Captain America: Winter Soldier, we last see Rumlow being carried off on a stretcher half dead, but he's back in an amazing looking suit as Crossbones!
Crossbones is leading a group of soldiers (maybe Hydra) into battle against Cap, Falcon, and Black Widow.
It looks like the fight could be taking place in Africa, so this could be a way of bringing Black Panther into the mix, since this is his home country.
I predict that Crossbones will be to this movie what Batroc the Leaper (the guy on the boat) was to Captain America: Winter Soldier: a side villain at the beginning of the movie when things are still in somewhat of a state of normalcy to show that our heroes are a tight-knit unit of superheroes. A contrast to them later being torn apart by different views, making it that much more devastating.
And of course! Now we come to Spider-the-Man! This is the day fans have been waiting for. This is the day our hope is renewed. This is the day of Peter Parker!
All Spider-Man fans felt their Spidey Sense tingle when he made his first ever MARVEL appearance EVER! Even people who didn't know who he was felt something! How could you not? I mean this is great! Welcome home Spidey!
I don't really have much else to say about Spider-Man at this time. They've been very good at keeping his role in this movie a secret, so I don't have much to go on.
Will he stay on Iron Man's side? Will he switch to Cap's like in the comics? I don't know. All I can say is I'm super excited and can't wait to see this movie!
Well, that's just about all I've got. Hope you enjoyed the article! If there are any points you'd like to expand on or if there's anything you think I've missed, please, let me know about it all in the comments! Thanks reading! :)
