10 Cloverfield Lane has crashed into theaters and it's already making a name for itself. Both critics and audiences are praising this somewhat sequel to 2008's Cloverfield. If you have not heard of it, watch the trailer right now.

I personally absolutely loved this film and I urge anybody doubting the movie to go and support it. To convince you, I'm going to give you three reasons why you need to drop whatever it is you are doing and go to your local theater to see it, Spoiler Free. Let's start with:

1. John Goodman

John Goodman has been an active actor since the 1980's when he got his big break on the show Roseanne. Since then, over the years, he's built up this amazing filmography to demonstrate his abilities as a character actor. Well, let me tell you right now that 10 Cloverfield Lane is his crowning performance because he was nothing less than fantastic in this film.

John Goodman plays a man named Howard who owns the bunker that is sheltering our main protagonists. Our main hero, Michelle, immediately finds that there is something very off about this man but can't quite put her finger on it. Throughout the whole movie, you have no idea if Howard is trying to legitimately help Michelle during a crisis or has more sinister plans in mind. Much like Kathy Bates in Misery, John Goodman's character is very intimidating and creepy when he rages out but it really creeps you out when he goes all smiley and nice. It's almost like he's trying to hide something beneath the surface.

I think it's safe to say that John Goodman gave the first Oscar worthy performance of 2016.

2. It does so much more with a smaller scale

The first Cloverfield basically centered around the idea of putting the audience in the perspective of a regular Joe was trying to survive a monster attack like in the old Godzilla movies. The idea worked pretty well as the film was a huge hit but 10 Cloverfield Lane decided to do something that a lot of "sequels" wouldn't dare to do. They took the idea of Cloverfield and made it into a smaller production.

The entire film takes place in the enclosed space of a bunker that John Goodman's character built and deals with the tension between the main characters. There are only three main characters in this film and they have to figure if they can trust each other while wondering what is going on outside on the surface. You are constantly at the edge of your seat wondering how this is all going to conclude and it does not disappoint.

However, I must warn you that this movie has almost nothing to do with the original Cloverfield film and I think that's what's going to hurt this film the most with audiences. People might go into this movie hoping for another monster movie or a true sequel to the original Cloverfield but in all honesty, this is basically a standalone thriller that shares the name Cloverfield. I suggest you go into this film just expecting a small scale thriller and you will have a better time.

3. It's creepier than any horror movie out right now

I have to say that most of the horror movies that I have seen in the past couple of years haven't even come close to the subtle creepiness and scares in this film. 10 Cloverfield Lane knows exactly how to build up tension and suspense with John Goodman's character as you never know exactly how he's going to react to a situation. He can either shrug off a tense situation with a smile or laugh or he can literally just go berserk on a dime and scare the crap out of you. The enclosed environment really add to the suspense and makes the audience really want to find out what happens next, whether it be good or bad.

10 Cloverfield Lane will keep on the edge of your seat from beginning to end and you will love every second of it. Do yourself a favor and see this amazing movie as soon as you can.
