Half-Life and Portal remain two of the most recognizable video game franchises ever made. Fans have been begging for movies or TV shows based off these legendary games for years. Well, gamers can rejoice (maybe) because that could be happening according to Star Wars: The Force Awakens director J. J. Abrams, who was being interviewed by Maude Garrett from Geek Bomb back in October of 2013:
"Yeah we're working with Gabe and the people at Valve who are all....crazy brilliant, on Portal and Half-Life and we're very excited about what that could be and despite most, you know, game to movie or movie to game transitions, we're working very hard to mitigate that com-" Abrams was cut off there but I can assume he meant to say, "...mitigate that complication."
More recently, Abrams was asked by IGN whether he could give a status update on the films. He replied:
“Not yet. But they’re in development, and we’ve got writers, and we’re working on both those stories. But nothing that would be exciting… an exciting update.”
So what does this mean exactly for these two movies? Will Abrams be directing these movies, producing these movies, or both? Whatever happens, we can expect one thing: the trailers are going to be very ominous and/or secretive if they come out. As a gamer, and a fan of J. J. Abrams's work, I am incredibly excited to see what he could bring to these properties because these are the two franchises just begging for cinematic glory.
So what are your thoughts on this reveal? Are you excited for both of these movies or just one of them or neither of them. Let me know in the comments below!
