Another day, another reboot in Hollywood. This time, it's a Warner Bros. and MGM reboot of Tomb Raider. Originally played by the versatile Angelina Jolie, a report from Deadline is pointing to Daisy Ridley to potentially fill the lead role of Lara Croft. Fresh from her starring role in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Ridley would be a great Lara Croft. But if she doesn't fill the role, these women below could definitely pull it off.
1. Gemma Arterton
With many action roles under her belt, such as in Prince Of Persia, Clash Of The Titans, and Hansel And Gretel: Witch Hunters, Gemma Arterton could definitely play a convincing Lara Croft. Arterton has the British accent and the looks to pull it off. Although Arterton might be a little too "mature" to play a younger Lara Croft, she still has the acting skills and can definitely kick ass, making her someone fit to play the role.
2. Emily Blunt
Forget the fact that she once played the First Assistant to Miranda Priestly in The Devils Wears Prada (or don't — she was absolutely amazing as Emily), Blunt would be the perfect Lara Croft. Blunt is a great actress who's taken on a diverse range of roles, but she also has the athleticism that would be needed as Lara Croft. Watch Blunt in Edge Of Tomorrow and Sicario — you'll know exactly what I mean.
3. Saoirse Ronan
Who cares if you don't know how to pronounce her name? Ronan was Hanna for heaven's sake! I was really surprised that such a young actress could be painted as a killer. But that's the beauty of Ronan; her acting skills are up there with the other A-list celebrities, earning her Academy Award nominations for her work in Atonement and Brooklyn. Mix that up with her killer instinct that she had in Hanna and you have a Lara Croft you wouldn't want to mess with.
4. Emma Watson
Although Watson is taking a year off from acting, she would still be a great Lara Croft. Young and beautiful, Watson could give Lara Croft an innocent edge — assuming the reboot is focusing on her roots — similar to the reboot of the video game. We already know Watson could act — although maybe her athleticism could be questioned — she could possibly be a great Lara Croft.
5. Tatiana Maslany
If you haven't seen Orphan Black on BBC, then what the hell is wrong with you? Jokes aside, Maslany can kick ass, be nerdy, play a housewife, etc. The point is, Maslany has proven on Orphan Black that she can be anyone she wants to be with ease. While Lara Croft could be a bit harder, Maslany won't have a problem as she's shown every side of a woman on the hit BBC series.
If Daisy Ridley won't be the star of the Tomb Raider reboot, I would actually root for Maslany as I love her on Orphan Black and know she could play the perfect Lara Croft. Although I feel that a reboot isn't necessary, if it's following in the footsteps of the video game — where it focuses more on a younger Lara Croft barely starting out her career as a tomb raider — then by all means go for it. I loved the reboot of the video game, so hopefully the movie will be just as good.
