For an actor who immerses himself so wholeheartedly into every role, physically and emotionally, it's unsurprising Christian Bale appears to have struggled slightly handing over the Batman baton to Ben Affleck for [Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice](tag:711870).
But, despite the character he portrayed across the Dark Knight trilogy being re-suited and rebooted a mere four years after his last outing in a role which, by the actors own admission, left a little to be desired, Bale appears to be in a supportive mood toward the latest in DC's Extended Universe.
"I Think It Looks Great"
The 42-year-old actor could almost be forgiven for being a tad bitter, especially considering he had expressed his desire to film another Batman movie. But, by now at least, there are no hard feelings.
In an interview with Yahoo Movies, Bale confirmed he would watch the film. He said:
“I think it looks great. My little boy really likes watching the trailers online. I think they’ve done a bloody good job. I don’t know that I’ll go see it in the movie theaters, but I’ll certainly see it.”
The vote of confidence by Bale and his son won't go unnoticed by heir to the Batsuit, Ben Affleck. It'd be hard to ignore the voice of the man who donned the cowl for Nolan's hugely successful, $2.5 billion grossing trilogy.
"I'm Jealous Of Someone Else Playing Batman"
Bale's comments suggest a change of heart from comments made last year, when he admitted his "jealousy" at the thought of a new Batman movie being made without him involved in it. In an interview with Empire Magazine, he said:
"When I heard there was someone else doing it, there was a moment where I just stopped and stared into nothing for half an hour. … But I'm 40. The fact that I'm jealous of someone else playing Batman. I think I should have gotten over it by now."
That being said, had things worked out differently, Bale could've found himself in the rebooted story. BvS director Zac Snyder considered an attempt to get the former Bruce Wayne to star in the movie, although not in the leading role.
But for the former leading man, being cast off to the side while Affleck strutted his stuff may have stirred up too many old memories.
Do you think Bale is right to believe he didn't quite nail the role of Batman?
