Would it be an exaggeration to compare the wait for the finale of The Walking Dead's Season 6 to the stomach-tickling anticipation we used to feel as kids when we climbed into bed on Christmas Eve, knowing that we'd get to open our presents first thing in the morning? Maybe a less-happy metaphor would be more fitting, as while Negan's arrival on The Walking Dead is hotly awaited, it also promises to be quite the gut-wrenching introduction.
After the show's stars Andrew Lincoln and Lauren Cohan expressed stomach-turning disgust upon reading the script of the Season 6 finale , the actor behind Morgan, Lennie James, has also shared his thoughts on Negan's much-anticipated arrival. And boy, is his enthusiasm contagious.
'One Of The Greatest Character Introductions'
Talking to ComicBook.com, James called the Season 6 finale "a phenomenal piece of writing," but his praise didn't end there:
"It is one of the greatest introductions of a character that I can remember in any television series, let alone in our television series. It's a phenomenal entrance. I don't want to build it up too much but it's probably [too] late now. It's amazing."
Got your adrenaline levels in check? Read on, because James had even more to say:
"For me, it was two things really. One was it was a sense of, 'Oh, my god. That's gonna be amazing.' Two was a desire to see it come to fruition and, from all intents and purposes and everything I know, it's fantastic. Jaws are gonna drop and people are gonna lose their shit, if you don't mind me saying. It's gonna blow some people's minds and break some people's hearts."
So, if you thought it wasn't possible to get any more agitated about this finale, there you have it. Be sure to have an extra oxygen supply at hand and clip your nails to spare your couch buddy's forearm when the last episode comes out, because this sounds like it's going to be insane.
Until then, watch the new promo for Season 6, Episode 14, airing March 20:
'An Incredible Enthusiasm For This Show'
But all in all, what really fueled James's enthusiasm and his belief that this season was going to be so exceptional is the team's involvement in the production:
"I know people have said it over and over again but it bears repeating: There's an incredible enthusiasm for this show amongst the people who are making it, let alone the the people who are watching it."
So even if the finale breaks our hearts, we know we're in good hands.
