The turtles have got their work cut out for them in forthcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out Of The Shadows as the updated look of the villain has, ahem, stepped out of the shadows.
Actor Brian Tee posted some dark awesomeness yesterday on Instagram, showing what The Shredder will look like in the new movie:
Alongside the image, the Japanese-American actor wrote:
The producers have clearly taken note of criticism of the previous Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie from 2014 (which has a 21 percent Rotten Tomatoes rating), and made a return to the design in the source material.
Watch The Thrilling Trailer For 'Out Of The Shadows':
In the Turtles sequel, Shredder has hired Dr. Stockman (Tyler Perry) to create two of the Turtles' most iconic mutants, Bepop and Rocksteady.
In the comics, Shredder is the sworn enemy of the Turtles, and leader of the New York branch of evil ninjitsu criminals called The Foot Clan. He is usually depicted as a muscular Japanese man with samurai-like armor, a trident-topped metal helmet and a cape. He earns his name from the blade-covered metal plaques on the top half of his torso.
Shredder Through The Ages:
The Nickelodeon Movies production is directed by David Green and stars Megan Fox, Stephen Amell and Will Arnett.
'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out Of The Shadows' will be released on June 3.
