The second series of Netflix Original Happy Valley is now available. Made for BBC in the UK, Happy Valley follows Sergeant Catherine Cawood, a Yorkshire police sergeant whose worst nightmares come true when the man responsible for her daughter's suicide is released from prison. Described as Britain's answer to The Wire, the second series of the hit drama picks up eighteen months after the first.
Following on from the ground-breaking success of the first series, Happy Valley manages to avoid the 'second series syndrome' that plagued True Detective and Broadchurch, delivering a second series that is equally as compelling as the first. Having only finished last night in Britain, the second series is already available to US viewers via Netflix.
Series 2 finds Catherine in the midst of a murder investigation that quickly indicates a serial killer is in town. It's not long though before Catherine's nightmares come back to haunt her, forcing her to realise that some things may never go away.
Sarah Lancashire and James Norton are astounding in this follow up series, creating new storylines as well as re-opening old ones, Happy Valley 2 is as groundbreaking as the first. Several familiar faces pop up throughout, but there are also new characters - actors that you may recognise from Harry Potter and Downton Abbey.
Sally Wainwright's writing is unlike anything you'll ever experience. The authenticity and realism of Happy Valley is unlike anything else on television. What are you waiting for? Go and watch Happy Valley - and if you've already seen the first series, then go and enjoy the second.
Happy Valley continues to thrive during it's second series, proving again why it is at the very top of television drama. Hopefully this won't be the last we've seen on Sergeant Cawood and her Troubled Town.
