There's so much to look forward to about [Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice](tag:711870), not the least of which being Wonder Woman's long-awaited big screen debut, as well as Batman's return. There's been a lot of speculation about just what Diana Prince's role in the Dawn Of Justice story is, and lately we've had some hints about the crucial part she plays. And according to Ben Affleck, Wonder Woman is the reason Batman can believe in heroes again.

Restoring Bruce's Faith

It's no secret that the Bruce Wayne of Batman vs Superman is a little jaded. He's been in the superhero business for many years, and Superman's appearance on the scene has thrown Bruce into turmoil: he fears that Superman is just too powerful. And thus the great fist fight begins.

With Justice League Part One upcoming, we know that by the end of the movie something must have changed about Batman's mindset. He must come to the realisation that Superman is a benefit to humanity, and somehow this lone hero must learn to play well with others. As Ben Affleck told Entertainment Weekly, Diana is the one to change his mind.

"It inspires in him the idea that well, if there’s one of these kinds of people out there, then maybe there are in fact more. If there are more, then maybe that’s hopeful and also terrifying to him, because then they could make humans even more powerless — or they could serve on our side. You’ve got to remember that Batman is the world’s greatest detective, and if he suspects that there may be more, and if he suspects in particular that Diana may be somebody special, he gets inspired."

The subject of metahumans, what they can do and whether they will hurt or help humanity, is a strong theme in Batman vs Superman. After the destruction in Man of Steel, it's no surprise that Bruce is wary of metahumans. But it looks like Diana's heroism persuades Batman that they can all work together.

And yet, Diana and Bruce don't start out on the best terms. In fact, they're competing with each other as they both race to find out Lex Luthor's plan.

Investigating Luthor

In Entertainment Weekly's Batman v Superman issue, it was revealed that Diana Prince is something of a James Bond-esque secret agent, investigating Lex Luthor. And Bruce Wayne's hot on her tail.

For most of the movie we see her as alter-ego Diana Prince – a glamorous covert agent, working only for herself, who runs afoul of Bruce Wayne as they engage in rival missions to steal some of Luthor’s most disconcerting secrets.

It's highly likely that Luthor is also fascinated by metahumans, and has captured some to experiment on them. And Diana is determined to stop him.

This is about as much as we know for sure about the plot thread involving Bruce, Diana, and Lex Luthor. And it's likely that Bruce Wayne's own investigation of Luthor gets sidetracked by his inevitable battle with Superman. In the meantime, can Diana deduce what's going on and save some of the metahumans Luthor has captured (possibly including Aquaman and the Flash)?

Probably. She's Wonder Woman, after all.
