Well, it was nice while it lasted.
Now, one of the most intriguing rumors to emerge from J.K. Simmons's recent "defection" to DC — thus making it unlikely he'll reprise his iconic role as J. Jonah Jameson in Spider-Man's upcoming solo movie — was that the role would instead be going to the already rumored Ice Cube.
Which, seeing as Ice Cube has long specialized in playing curmudgeonly authority figures with a flair for the dramatic and a nice line in snarky comments, seemed to be pretty darned perfect casting, especially considering the Marvel Cinematic Universe's current drive for greater diversity.
The only problem?
Ice Cube Just Ripped Those Rumors To Shreds
In fact, from the sound of the actor's recent comments during an interview with Complex, it really doesn't sound like there's much chance of it happening. As he put it:
"If I'm not playing Spider-Man, I'm not doing shit... I'm not about to play one of these side-busters."
Which sounds pretty darned conclusive to me; though Ice Cube did note that he would actually be happy to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe — as the Incredible Hulk.
NOBODY TELL MARK RUFFALO.
What do you think, though?
