Matthew Perry has been confirmed for the role of Ted Kennedy, Jack and Bobby's brother, in the sequel to Reelz's 2011 miniseries The Kennedys. He's joining Katie Holmes, who will be reprising her role as Jackie Kennedy.
'The Kennedys – After Camelot'
The followup, titled The Kennedys – After Camelot, is scheduled to be released in 2017. Based on J. Randy Taraborrelli’s book After Camelot: A Personal History Of The Kennedy Family 1968 To The Present, the show will follow Ted and Jackie in the aftermath of the brothers Kennedy's assassinations, as well as the relationship between the ex-First Lady and her brother-in-law as they turn to each other for support.
'Matthew Perry Will Fascinate Audiences'
Executive producer Michael Prupas is more than happy with Perry's casting. Speaking to Variety, Prupas said:
"We are privileged to have an actor of Matthew Perry’s stature and ability take on the role of such a complex and controversial figure as Ted Kennedy. Matthew Perry and Katie Holmes will fascinate audiences around the world as they bring these two famous Americans to life."
While Holmes will co-direct the show with John Cassar, the Friends star is also involved as an executive producer. Apart from The Kennedys, he's currently starring in The Odd Couple on CBS and making his playwriting debut with The End Of Longing in London's West End.
