Marvel and Netflix's first collaboration returns this week with Daredevil Season 2, but that's not stopping them from promoting some of their highly anticipated future projects.
Other than The Defenders, the show most shrouded in mystery right now has got to be Iron Fist. A few weeks ago, it was reported that Finn Jones had been cast as the series' mystically enhanced hero, but we had never gotten any concrete confirmation from Marvel or Netflix.
Now, Marvel has finally acknowledged the show and confirmed some of its biggest elements.
Who Is Danny Rand?
This tweet links to a Marvel article that serves as the official casting announcement. As we expected, Jones will indeed play Danny Rand, a master in kung-fu who returns to New York City to fight crime and dispel evil. During the years he was missing, he mastered the "awesome power of the fiery Iron Fist."
According to executive producer and showrunner Scott Buck, Jones was the best choice to bring all the layers of Danny Rand to life:
"Danny Rand is a very complicated character. He’s a billionaire New York Buddhist monk martial arts superhero who’s still trying to figure out what exactly that all means. Finn is able to play all these levels in such an honest, revelatory way that as soon as I saw him I knew he was our Danny."
Now that all the principal players are in place for The Defenders (Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist), Marvel and Netflix are well on the way to their biggest crossover effort. Iron Fist is now in development with no word on a release date.
