ET confirms Amber Heard has been cast as Mera in 'Justice League' and 'Aquaman'!
The rumors are true! In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Amber Heard confirmed she will be playing Mera in the upcoming Aquaman and Justice League films. In the interview, Amber seems giddy and excited over the role, even revealing costume details! She confirms she has in fact tried it on, saying it's "half suit of armor, half scales," and specifies that it's a work in progress at the moment. Watch below!
In DC comics, Mera is the queen of Dimension Aqua and Atlantis, and the wife of Aquaman, who is being played by Jason Mamoa in the films. She has many water related abilities as well as super strength, flight, and limited telekinesis. The queen under the sea wore a green scaly bodysuit along with a golden spiked crown throughout the comics, but it sounds like the films will be giving it quite the upgrade, and we are not complaining.
Amber Heard is best known for Magic Mike XXL, The Danish Girl, Machete Kills, and more. She recently married Johnny Depp, and has been rumored to be in talks for the role of Mera for some time, but the studio was mums the word until now. One thing is for sure, she definitely has the look and will look amazing with fiery red locks!
Justice League: Part One is slated for a 2017 release and stars Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Henry Cavill, Jason Mamoa, and now Amber Heard, while Aquaman's stand alone film starring Jason Mamoa is due out in 2018.
