On 3rd January 2016, an adaptation of Leo Tolstoy's masterpiece dropped in and has created a buzz among literature fanatics. The 6 episode series is truly brilliant and undoubtedly one of the best TV series of 2016. Here is a quick peek about the novel and the adaptation.
Well, the novel goes like this :
The novel charts the history of the French invasion of Russia, and the impact of the Napoleonic era on Tsarist society, through the stories of five Russian aristocratic families. With 3 central characters
- Count Pyotr Kirillovich (Pierre) Bezukhov : Fondly called Pierre throughout, the novel and perhaps the most harmless guy we come across. (played by Paul Dano)
- Prince Andrei Nikolayevich Bolkonsky : Fondly called Andrei throughout the novel and the strong, skeptical guy. (Played by James Norton)
- Natasha Rostova : The free soul, who gets torn between the conflict of War and peace.(Played by Lily James.)
The novel through these characters in the center weave a story which tells us the real picture of the Tsarist society and narrates a saga of love, revenge, hypocrisy and death.
Almost Like :
GAME OF THRONES + DOWNTOWN ABBEY + AWESOMENESS = WAR AND PEACE
While the novel is extremely long ( said to be the one of the longest works in world's literature.) and is not as gripping as the today's literature but still if you are a real fanatic of classic literature do give it a try, but if you are a normal person who is just interested about the novel and would like to know it better, the TV series is just for you.
Here is the trailer of the TV series :
Summing it up :
Its a real cool novel and the TV adaptation is equally awesome. Its just that the novel becomes a bit of boring with all the philosophical part, and the TV series just saves us from reading that mammoth of a novel. Reading the novel might take some time but it's worth it, otherwise the TV series is a must.
