Update: Two more supposed images of Nintendo's NX controller have spilled on to the web, but this time in glorious HQ. Originating on Reddit from a user named perkele37, the images reveal a new color scheme for the controller, apart from confirming the tech has no buttons whatsoever. And it's shaped like Arnold from Hey, Arnold's head.
Perkele37 went on to comment on the controller saying that:
- "Only the upper 'nubs' of the sticks move. The bottom part is static (kind of like the circle pad, but it moves along the bottom 'sphere'."
- "The rollers on the top feel and look pretty much identical to a mouse scroll-wheel. Though I do don't believe this will be the final design."
- "Haptic feedback is feels like Apples 'taptic' engine. Not like regular rumble."
- "3.5mm headphone jack on the bottom."
This controller sounds absolutely insane!
Original Post: At the end of last year, reports were flying in of a Nintendo patent that would wholeheartedly herald the return to the forefront for the innovative giants. The patent was for the NX's ultra futuristic controller, what is essentially a tiny screen with two thumbsticks protruding from it, which has been rumored to be a GameBoy killer and revolutionize the way we interact with games.
Now, thanks to Dual Pixels' Alexander Maier, and his trusty, eagle eyed source, we now have photographic evidence that the NX's controller, if it actually turns out to be legit, will be honestly and unequivocally bat-shit awesome.
Keep an eye out for the little piece of paper that says "You will say wow!", because this lovely little piece of tech is pure wow fodder:
Designed with the controller port on top of the device, you can see the controller's entire faceplate has an image of a rocky pass emblazoned on it. There's a front facing camera and, possibly, two small stereo speakers on either side of the camera and whatever that little black box/tape is.
Depending on the size of the device, its curves look like they may render the controller a little difficult to sue over a prolonged period of time, much like the Wii's classic controller.
Personally I'm hoping it's close to the size of the Wii U's GamePad, because I really love that thing. But that's just me I guess.
Anyway, how great does that controller look!? Your move, Ninty. You've gotta give us a little news now after this leak? Just a little, man. C'mon, please? And with all the negative fuss being generated over the controller's design. Does anybody remember the N64's now legendary controller and how it revolutionized console input, though people were aghast at its design?
