Marvel Comics is launching a Rogue One: A Star Wars Story comic book series ahead of the movie's release.

David Gabriel, Marvel's senior vice president of sales and marketing, announced the prequel series at the Diamond Comics Retailer Breakfast today at C2E2 (Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo). The only details we've got come from a photo of a presentation slide taken by Dennis Barger at Wonderworld Comics.

The comic will be a three-issue series with a one-shot.

The Rogue One comic series will hit shelves in October, long before the movie's release two months later. Since it's a prequel series, the issues will be less like the traditional Star Wars novelization and probably more like an introduction to all these new characters we have yet to meet.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (the movie) hits theaters on December 16.
