German actress Franka Potente, known for her role as Jason Bourne's love interest Marie in the early Bourne movies, has been cast opposite Tom Hardy in his new period drama series, Taboo.
Potente will appear as Helga in the BBC/FX miniseries, which to be produced by Ridley Scott (Alien) and Steven Knight (Dirty Pretty Things) alongside Hardy. Helga is described as a business-minded madam who shares a history with James.
Taboo follows James Keziah Delaney (Hardy) as he returns to London in the early 1800s after a 10 year stint in Africa, only to discover that he has been left a mysterious legacy by his father. But inheriting his father's shipping empire comes at a price and, with enemies in every corner, James suddenly finds himself playing a dangerous game between two warring nations.
