Modern Family actress, Ariel Winter, has appeared on Ellen and shared just how thankful she is to have her sister in her life, as she moves forward from the emotional abuse she suffered under her mother's care.
The 18-year-old actress spoke to Ellen about how much her sister meant to her, stating:
"She is the best part of my life. She really is my best friend. She’s the most important thing to me.” The adding "she’s been there for me through absolutely everything. And I just love her so much. I count on her more than anything."
Winter has been under the guardianship of her older sister Shanelle Gray since 2012, following the courts discovering that Winters mother, Chrisoula Workman, had been emotionally abusing her. The actress legally emancipated herself from her mother in May, 2015.
But despite emancipating herself from her mother, Winter did admit to Ellen that it hasn't always been an easy adjustment. She told the host:
"Well, it’s most definitely hard to grow up in the industry, but just grow up in any instance without a mother from a very young age,"
“And it has been very sad for me, but at the same time it’s been much better for me emotionally and physically to be on my own and have a better, safe household and support system"
