Check out our podcast here if you want to hear us talk about it:
While Kara is trying to win back National City's trust, Army colonel James Harper begins an investigation into J'onn , with Lucy as his legal assistant. Harper believes that J'onn has come to earth with the intention to take it over with his people. He tells them what really happened to Jeremiah Danvers and Hank Henshaw. In flashbacks the DEO led by the real Hank Henshaw head to Peru to capture and kill J'onn. After being separated from the group Jeremiah is nearly killed by an anaconda but J'onn saves him. They bond over their daughters and Jeremiah relaizes that J'onn is a refugee and not an enemy. Hank appears and tries to kill J'onn but Jeremiah seemingly kills him by throwing him off a cliff, but not before being stabbed by Hank. Before he dies, Jeremiah asks J'onn to protect both Alex and Kara. Even though Alex and J'onn check out on the lie detector test and prove that he only has the best intentions in saving the world from other alien threats they decide to take them in. After learning that J'onn and Alex are on their way to Project Cadmus with some help from Agent Valdez, Kara tells Lucy that she is Supergirl with Jimmys help, and convinces her to rescue J'onn and Alex. J'onn makes Harper forget the incident and learns that Jeremiah is still alive, so J'onn and Alex go on the run to find him. Harper decides to make Lucy the new director of the DEO with Kara agreeing to help her run things. Meanwhile, Siobhan tries to get revenge on Kara for getting her fired, but gets caught by Winn who decides to tell Cat and protect Kara. While Winn tries to talk to her on the roof of a random building she falls and discovers that she has the power to sonic scream.
Not a whole lot of flying going on here or fighting for that matter since the battle between Supergirl and Martian Manhunter nearly leveled the city. We never thought that we would ever see Kara on a motor cycle but we did. Check out these notable scenes.
Jim Harper/Guardian: An old friend of the real Hank Henshaw who took over the DEO after J'onn was revealed. He is shown to have a dislike of aliens and thought that J'onn came to earth to take it over. He shares a name with the DC Comics character. In the comics he is a vigilante who goes by the name Guardian. Just like his character he has ties to Project Cadmus.
Team Supergirl- Everyone had to lay low since the last episode. With the city viewing the two heavy hitters on the team and the government appointing a jerk of a coronel to run the DEO, our team has been divided once again. Then at the end Alex and J'onn go to find Jeremiah, leaving the protecting up to Kara and her friends.
Kara and Alex- Alex and Kara only had one goal which was to prove that J'onn was a good person and not a danger. Then it went from that into Kara having to save Ale and J'onn. We were also able to see more of Kara and Alex growing up, having to hide her abilities from the world. Alex was just like every other older sibling, jealous of all the attention the younger one got and annoyed to have her tagging along all the time. Despite this she cared a lot about Kara and was always super protective. They had to say goodbye at the end, but we will see her again, and hopefully with their father.
Kara and Winn- Another flashback of when these two first met at Kara's interview at CatCo. It was love at first sight for the dude. We all know how that went, but has a KaraWinn shipper, we aren't giving up hope. The guy is still protecting her even when she isn't around and even lost his girl by defending her.
Kara and Jimmy- They put away their differences so that they could find out what Cadmus was and why Alex and J'onn were being taken there. He also helped her finally tell the truth to Lucy, who's help they needed.
Kara and Lucy- You could see the disappointment in her eyes after learning that Kara and Supergirl were one in the same. Not so much for them lying, but for not putting everything together herself, even though she said she had an idea. After Kara explained why she and J'onn had to hide their true selves, Lucy came to trust her. Now that she is the new Director of the DEO, she and Kara will be spending a lot more time with each other.
Kara and Cat- This was a flashback of how Kara got her job at CatCo. I guess saying that you are average and normal meets the qualifications to work there. There banter between the two was adorable on Kara's part and hilarious on Cat's. Even though Cat won't admit it, she knows she needs Kara around and seems lost without her.
Alex and J'onn- They steal the show every time they have their heart to hearts. She didn't give up on him for a second, even putting her job and life on the line to prove that he was a good person. They are on the run now technically because the DEO is built to lock up aliens and she is aiding him. Look out for Agent Danver's and Agent Jonzz, The Fugitives. It's got a nice ring to it.
Alex, Lucy and Jim- She isn't one to sell out her family. She kept her composure and kept reminding them of all the good J'onn had done to protect the earth from the real bad aliens. Jim viewed her as a traitor, while Lucy seemed like she wanted to know more about Alex and J'onn's father-daughter relationship.
J'onn and Jeremiah- We've been waiting to see more of the back story of what really happened with Jeremy and J'onn. Jeremy was the only one who saw the good in the aliens they were going after, J'onn in particular. After saving him from a giant anaconda, Jeremiah realized that J'onn was a refugee, not a threat. The sang campfire songs and then talked about their daughters afterwards. Their friendship didn't last long though and what a sad goodbye it was.
J'onn, Jeremy and Hank- The real Hank Henshaw was just as much of an ass as Harper. No wonder they got a long so well. The confrontation didn't last long and even though Jeremiah died, he saved J'onn.
J'onn, Lucy and Jim- Jim had a jaw that you just want to take a crack at. Then you put his personality on top of that. You don't need to be an alien to see that the guy is a hypocrite and nut job. We'd like to say that we knew where he was coming from, but we also really didn't. It's 2016 buddy, time for acceptance of people and aliens alike. Lucy on the other hand seemed to be a little more opened minded. She actually listened to his story and seemed to believe him to some extent.
Winn and Siobhan- Winn meets girl. Winn and girl fall into a love/hate relationship. Winn rats out girl to protect his best friend. I mean what did she think was going to happen. All she proved to him was that she is a pretty terrible person, despite all the pep talks he gave her on becoming better. At least Winn can say he got some before the season was over. I mean she will eventually turn into a homicidal maniac, but he got to her before that. We're wondering what was going through his head watching her fall to her death only to let out a devastating banshee scream.
Winn and Jimmy- These two are the best friends that Supergirl can have. Not only are they there when she is out kicking butt, but they had to cover for Kara while she took some time off. But even Cat Grant was a little too much for them to handle.
Cat and Siobhan- We felt bad for Siobhan last episode, after Red K Kara got her fired, but she dug her own grave in this one. She thought Cat hated her before, think again. She's definitely not going to be able to get another job. Cat was actually pretty civil with her this time around. I guess it's time to go to the dark side.
Jimmy and Lucy- Talk about awkward. She went right back to being a military girl after their break up and it seems to have been the right move. Even after everything though and with some help from Kara, Jimmy was able to see that Project Cadmus was dangerous. Maybe things aren't over just yet, or maybe they are.
Chocos- J'onn's favorite snack. In the comics Booster Gold and Blue Beetle decided to play a trick on J'onn. They stole his remaining supply of Chocos, and purchased the entire stock from every retail outlet throughout the city. Upon discovering that he was out of Chocos, J'onn threw a tantrum. His shape-shifting abilities raged out of control, and he began tearing up the city streets in desperate need of Chocos. As the withdrawal symptoms continued, J'onn's intellect lessened, until he was little more than a brutish, enraged, "hulk" with little semblance of humanity.
Project Cadmus- Is a fictional genetic engineering project in the DC Comics Universe. Some prominent characters tied to it are Guardian and Superboy, who were created there. Lex Luthor also had a hand in funding the research done there. Those of you who are fans of Young Justice know that this plays a huge part of the story. With that being said, let's hope for a Season 3.
What's To Come/Theories:
Next week is the long awaited crossover episode, 'World's Finest', in which we will finally get to see the Scarlett Speedster, team up with Supergirl to bring down the baddies. What we also know is that he will be using the tachyon device to open a breach so that he can return to Earth 2, but ends up on Kara's world instead. At the very end of this episode, we saw that Siobhan already has her powers and Winn looked on in confusion. He screamed as she stopped her fall from the top of building and destroying the ground beneath her with the banshee scream. Now, we are going to love the episode regardless, but we thought that Siobhan would become the Silver Banshee through some freak accident which would also change her appearance. We were hoping that the change would be supernatural and not just make up, but we will see. Joining her will be Livewire, who we haven't seen from the start of the season. What we are really looking forward to, other than The Flash and Supergirl interaction, is the race. We obviously know who will win, but every since we were kids, we've been wanting to see the cover below come to life. And now it will, but with Kara and Barry instead! Get hyped everybody! This is what we've been asking for from the start! Another thing is when J'onn is clearing Harper's memories, he saw a vision of Jeremiah at Cadmus, alive. If we had to guess, he may be this show's version of Cyborg Superman, or maybe another super being. If he is alive, then maybe the real Hank Henshaw is too. We will have to see where J'onn and Alex end up in their search for Jeremiah. Also, let's hope that this will help the show fly into Season 2!
The episode focused a lot more on the repercussions of keeping J'onn's secret and how Kara was going to get the city's trust back. So a lot more drama in this episode than anything. After all the action we got last week, it was a nice change of pace, especially since we have the SupergirlXFlash episode coming next week. Overall, it was a solid one. We give 'Manhunter' 9 Kryptos out of 10. What did you think about this episode? Leave it in the comments below, we'd love to read them!
