Soon after the success of the first season of Jessica Jones, Netflix and Marvel confirmed the series for a second season. Also now that Daredevil season 2 has been a successful as predicted, fans of the more mature side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe are wondering if Netflix can keep this winning streak with the season 2 of Jessica Jones.

1. Release Date

An official release date has yet to be announced. However, when questioned, showrunner Melissa Rosenberg had this to say:

There are logistics involved, because Defenders has to shoot by a certain time, contractually. Actually, I'm not sure; I'm not at all involved in those conversations, much to my dismay. The first question is whether or not we will even get a second season. The second question is, if so, when? Will it be before The Defenders or after? I'd certainly love it to be before but there are things that play into that — time, availability.

Since the upcoming Luke Cage series is set to be released on September 30th of this year, we most likely won't see Jessica Jones on our TV screens again until later in 2017 unless they postpone a third season of Daredevil next spring.

2. Cast

It's very unlikely we'll be seeing any new major characters for season 2 of Jessica Jones because it's more likely they will exploring the characters they have already cast. Will Trish Walker evolve into the superhero Hellcat? Will Officer Simpson become the new villain of the season? With these unanswered questions up in the air, its very unlikely that the showrunners will want to over saturate the cast. However, Melissa Rosenberg did have this to say:

[Trish] is one of the characters that I’m looking forward to exploring, and pushing to new territory, and the world is our oyster on that one. We can go anywhere we want with it and there’s a lot of mythology behind her.

It seems that Melissa would like to dive more into the character of Trish and her story arc becoming a superhero. Guess we'll just have to wait and find out.

3. Story

The first season of Jessica Jones didn't end with many questions. The only real questions surround the future of the characters of Trish Walker and Officer Will Simpson. In the comics, Trish Walker becomes the superhero Hellcat while Simpson becomes the pill addicted villain Nuke. When asked about the future of the show, Melissa Rosenberg told Deadline:

I think one of the things I would be able to do now, that’s harder to do in the first season, is to really expand on the ensemble...I would hope to further expand on the ensemble, and on Jessica’s world. She ends in a very different place than she started off. She’s still going to be Jessica Jones — that is not going to change. She will continue to drink and make mistakes, and accidentally drop people onto train tracks, but something has changed for her by the end of this season, and I’d just love to explore that in the second season.

So the only sure thing we're going to see in season 2 is Jessica Jones continuing to try to be a hero everyone wants her to be while also continuing to drink and have an all round poor attitude.

What are you hoping for in the upcoming season of Jessica Jones?
