I've finally finished watching Season 2 of Daredevil. I know, I know, it's been out for a while, but unlike my viewing of the first season, I decided to take my time so that I could fully absorb it. I was successful, for about a week and a half. And now that I'm done watching it, I have to wake up every day to the bittersweet realization that there are no more new Daredevil episodes for me to watch.
That doesn't mean I would ever go back and stop myself from bingeing the hell out of that entire amazing season. The minute I pressed play, I fell back in love with Hell's Kitchen and its evergrowing pool of interesting characters.
The fight choreography in this season was spectacular, and seeing all of the epic battle scenes take place gave me pause for thought: What other incredible fight scenes exist in the MCU? Turns out, there's a TON of them. But for the sake of saving time, I've compiled a list of the 10 that I found to be extremely spectacular. Check out the list below.
10. Iron Man Vs The Ten Rings ('Iron Man')
What better way to begin this list than with a scene from the movie that started it all? Iron Man introduced us to the MCU, and to the character of Tony Stark.
Back then, we had no idea that we would be so enamored with Stark and his quick-witted charm. But we did know that we were loving his journey in Iron Man, a fact only solidified by the epic-ness of the above scene.
After being captured by a terrorist organization known as the Ten Rings, Tony Stark is tasked with creating a deadly weapon for them. Instead, he makes a weapon for himself, in the form of a full-body suit of mechanical armor, the first Iron Man suit. Using it, Tony escapes, taking down a ton of Ten Rings soldiers on his way out.
9. Hulk Vs Hulkbuster ('Avengers: Age Of Ultron')
Fast forward to a recent installment in the MCU, Avengers: Age of Ultron, and we're met with another awesome fight scene featuring Iron Man — the infamous battle between The Hulk and The Hulkbuster.
Admittedly, AoU had its flaws, but this battle certainly wasn't one of them. Seeing a possessed Hulk duke it out with a beefed-up Iron Man in a heavily populated city was one of the best scenes in the whole film.
8. TIE — Daisy Vs Hydra Agents/Ward Vs Malick's Henchmen ('Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.')
This one's a tie, because I honestly couldn't decide between these two. Agents of Shield has a plethora of awesome fight scenes, but these two stuck out to me for different reasons.
This first video is especially awesome because it really shows how much Skye/Daisy has grown as a character, while also showcasing her newfound skills. In Season 1, she could barely hold her own against one Hydra agent. Skip ahead to Season 2 and she's taking on a whole squad of them with enough covert finesse to make Solid Snake proud. But not May. May is NEVER impressed.
As for this scene, well, say what you will about Ward (no, seriously, say anything about this absolute D-bag), the guy can really handle his own in a fight.
I'm a sucker for bar-fight scenes, and even though this isn't really your average bar, it's still an epic throwdown involving pool tables and smashing a glass on a guy's head. So it counts.
7. Iron Man Vs Thor Vs Cap ('The Avengers')
The first Avengers film introduced our favorite Marvel heroes to each other, forcing them to come together to protect the world. But before the heroes of the MCU were all buddies (although they're marginally less so nowadays), their first encounter saw them at each other's throats.
Such is the case with this battle, which pits Iron Man against Thor, the God of Thunder. The two Avengers battle in a forest, challenging each other's strength and practicing the age-old habit of never fully explaining the situation in movies.
What starts off as an epic battle gets even better when Captain America arrives to try to ease the tension, although the battle doesn't last much longer after he enters the fray. But that's just ol' Cap for ya, always shutting the party down and scolding you for inappropriate language.
6. The Prison Break Scene ('Guardians Of The Galaxy')
To this day, Guardians of the Galaxy remains high on my list of best MCU films, second only to Captain America: The Winter Soldier. The above scene is one reason why.
The Guardians are forced to work together to escape life in a heavily guarded space prison, so Rocket Raccoon concocts a plan that — long story short — results in one of the coolest prison breakout fight scenes ever.
Drax and Gamora pummeling guards, Groot using his tree-like powers to fend off people, and that moment when Rocket gets his hands (paws?) on one of the officer's rifles — this scene is all kinds of fun.
5. The Bar Fight ('Jessica Jones')
I liked Jessica Jones a lot more than I thought I would. Before watching, I knew nothing of this character, and she wasn't very interesting to me since we've all seen her kind of powers time and time again.
But there's more than just super strength to Jessica Jones; there's actual depth and personality that makes watching her 13-episode journey a breeze. Admittedly though, that super strength does come in super handy, especially when you're taking on a bunch of drunk, disgruntled men in a bar.
This scene is awesome for three reasons: 1) I LOVE bar-fight scenes, what can I say? 2) Jessica Jones and Luke Cage are masters at brawling. And 3) I just love how nonchalant Luke Cage is about all this. I guess when your skin is literally indestructible, you tend to treat fighting as a something to pass the time with.
4. Cap And Black Widow Vs Winter Soldier ('Captain America: The Winter Soldier')
As I previously mentioned, Captain America: The Winter Soldier is my all-time favorite MCU film. With an incredible cast of characters and an amazing plot that affects other films and characters in the MCU, The Winter Soldier absolutely surprised me with how well done it truly was.
One of the greatest scenes in the film for me (besides that chase scene with Arnim Zola and Nick Fury) is when Captain America and Black Widow are attacked on a highway by Hydra and the Winter Soldier.
What ensues is an action-packed showdown on the streets between Widow, Cap and WS. The battle ends with Cap discovering that this masked assailant is his old war buddy Bucky Barnes. An awesome fight scene and a dramatic discovery combined.
3. The Hallway Scene ('Daredevil' Season 1)
Even though I thought the fight choreography was more like how it is in the comics, I have to give props to the first season of Daredevil for the incredible and infamous hallway scene.
Everything about it was spectacular! The camerawork, pacing and choreography make for (in my opinion) the greatest fight scene in the entire season.
2. Captain America Vs Hydra Agents In An Elevator ('Captain America: The Winter Soldier')
Gah, this scene! It gives me goosebumps every time I think about it. If there's one thing I love more than bar-fight scenes, it's scenes involving close-quarters combat.
Sure, this scene might not have as much emotional tension tethered to it like the one where Cap fights his old friend, but seeing Cap's face as he slowly realizes that he's about to get jumped is tense enough.
Add to that the epic line Cap says ("Before we get started, does anybody want to get off?") and you can see why this scene gives me chills to this day.
1. Punisher Prison Fight ('Daredevil' Season 2)
We've finally made it to the No. 1 greatest fight scene in the MCU — the Punisher prison-fight scene. Admittedly, it's a fairly new scene, but just because it's new doesn't mean it isn't deserving of the No. 1 spot. After getting thrown in jail and betrayed by fellow prisoner Wilson Fisk (surprise, surprise), Frank Castle is locked in a narrow hallway with a bunch of angry prisoners who know all about Castle's infamy.
Castle of course takes them out in bloody fashion, truly showcasing just how brutally talented the Punisher is. I don't know what Marvel's Netflix plans are later, but a Punisher TV series needs to happen — based on the awesomeness of this scene alone.
There are a ton of awesome fight scenes in the MCU, so if there are any that you didn't see on this list, please feel free to comment about your favorite scenes below.
