Negan's arrival on The Walking Dead has been a point of discussion for many fans of the show. The biggest question everyone is asking is "Who will be on the end of the beating from Lucille?" Now, be aware this article will contain a lot of information from the comics, so if you are trying not to spoil any potential information on the series do not continue reading.
In the comics, Negan kills poor Glenn in the 100th Issue. This was done for multiple reasons, the first being the obvious "we made it to 100!" But more shockingly, Glenn was killed as he was a fan favorite character from the comics. The death had one pure intention for the readers, and that was to shock. Now I shall present to you three key reasons why Glenn could be replaced by Daryl in the show to meet his end at the hands of Negan.
1. Norman Reedus Himself
While Reedus has always been a actor to easily find work in Hollywood, his whole life changed with The Walking Dead. Being the definition of the what has propelled his career further, the actor has been getting offers from all over the place due to his popularity on the show. Reedus himself has not said he wants to leave the show, but being the intelligent actor he is, he will also be aware these offers could stop when The Walking Dead finally ends. This is not uncommon in Hollywood — Zachery Quinto, for example, is a prime case of an actor who's career launched to new levels after starring on a show. If Reedus wants to hit A-list celebrity status, this could be his chance to hit the big leagues and earn credits he had never even dreamed of.
2. The Butterfly Effect
The creators behind the show have stated on numerous occasions that characters such as Daryl, Sasha and Tara are amazing in the show simply because they were not in the comics. The reason for this is because they create a ripple effect when events from the comics unfold on the show. Them simply being there changes the outcome and what can happen in the show. So, with his life on the show having such a massive effect on how the show plays out, wouldn't it make sense for his death to have an equal effect? By having him take the place of Glenn in the death scene, it would then create whole new ripples to how the story will play out. This would not be the first time this happened on the show either. Carol was meant to die while the group were at the prison, and her daughter Sophia is still alive in the comics today. When the TV writers killed off Sophia, they created the first changes in Carol's story. Then, by not killing her at the prison it allowed them to take her character in an entirely new direction as the character was from that point on an anomaly to the show, just like Daryl.
3. Shock Value
The main reason Daryl could meet his end to Lucille is simply because all the fans love Daryl. In the comics, Glenn was chosen due to his popularity. However, in the show Glenn is not the fan favorite from the cast of characters, instead the original character of Daryl stole viewers' hearts. If they follow the same reasoning behind who should meet Lucille, it means Daryl is at the top of their list. In a nutshell, if he does die at the hands of Negan, fans will only have themselves to blame for making it clear they love him so much.
