Batman v Superman is racking up huge money overseas as it debuts around the world taking its global total to $424.1 million including $170.1 million domestic and $254 million international.
As i have discussed the domestic opening in my other article. Lets take a look at its big international numbers.
Biggest Global Superhero Opening Ever
Batman v Superman scored biggest global superhero opening with $424 million beating both Avengers movie ($392.5 million), Spider Man 3 (381.7 million) and Iron man 3 ($372.5 million). Well that is not an apples to apples match as both Avengers movies didn't open in all markets simultaneously, especially in China.
But for what its worth its a big total for a movie that is received with mix reactions.
As Deadline qouted :
“The reviews did not matter at all,” an exec told deadline this morning. “Every market is over-performing.” Despite a critical drubbing in the U.S. and many mixed notices overseas, fans turned out to see Affleck essay the Batsuit for the first time and Cavill return as the son of Jor-El.
Biggest Superhero Foreign Opening Weekend
The Dark Knight, Man Of Steel and Wonder Women proved to be big draw to international audiences as it grossed a stunning $254 million from 66 markets on almost 40,000 screens.
Jeff Goldstein, Warner Bros. distribution executive vice president said:
"Fans around the world have embraced the movie. The beauty of moving our date is that strategically it allowed us to open up around the world at the same time and in a time frame where there’s not a lot of competition."
This is the biggest superhero foreign opening weekend ever beating Spider man 3 ($230.5 million), Avengers: Age of Ultron ($201 million), Iron Man 3 ($198 million), The Avengers ($185 million) and X-Men: Days of Future Past (172 million).
