One of the more low-key, but surprisingly anticipated movies of the 2016 movie season is prepared to go all the way in terms of action and improvement of the viewer experience. Hardcore Henry is an upcoming action adventure film that utilizes first-person point of view. The film is directed by Ilya Naishuller. There is already alot of hype surrounding the film since it was shopped around and shown at a number of film festivals. Many are already calling it a reinvention of the action genre. The film is expected to arrive in theaters in April.
Here's the basic plot:
Hardcore Henry is a first person action film in which the audience sees everything through the eyes of Henry, a man resurrected from the brink of death as a cybernetic supersoldier who remembers nothing about his past. He is trying to save his wife Estelle, who has been kidnapped by Akan, a powerful warlord with a plan for bio-engineering soldiers. In the unfamiliar city of Moscow, Henry tries to avoid being killed while discovering the truth behind his identity.
The plot hardly matters at this point since more people are excited to experience an action film in POV. The trailers have done a stellar job showcasing the film's action sequences and key characters without giving away major plot details. But even if there was anything spoiler-y in the trailers, it's unlikely that it would prevent most moviegoers from checking the film out in theaters. This movie comes at a time when occulus rift/ virtual reality technology is beginning to become more popular and is slowly being integrated into different forms of entertainment such as video games. It's almost guaranteed that Hardcore Henry will clean up nicely at the box-office due to growing anticipation and a low-to-midsized budget. If you've seen the trailers for this or you're a fan of the director and actors, then this is likely a must-watch for you.
