Gerard Way, of My Chemical Romance fame, is no stranger to the comic book realm, known for his incredible work on The Umbrella Academy. But back in 2013, there was a slight possibility for him to get his own Batman limited-series.

Sadly, the only thing stopping him was time to write it. But now that MCR are on a semi-permanent hiatus (I strongly believe they will reunite for a gig or two by the end of the decade), you'd think Way has a bit more time on his hands to actually go through with Batman: Kingdom of the Mad...

Way also revealed at the time certain details about his version of the DC Comics characters. Brace yourself, they're quite bizarre:

  • Batman only eats rats, has ESP (Extra-Sensory Perception) and has a drawing of a magical kingdom inside his cape that is his version of Heaven. Oh and he can also turn into a bat and see into the future...
  • The Joker is solely 19 years old, only a 1 or 2 years younger than Robin.
  • Mr. Freeze dresses up as his dead wife, in a suit created from the metal of the car crash that killed her. Right...
  • The Riddler has a mask that covers his full head like a bag, making him look as mysterious as he'll ever be.

This is what the world missed out on:

Hopefully, Batman: Kingdom of the Mad will see the light of day in the near future.
