Earlier in January it was reported that TNT was working on a Tales From The Crypt with M. Night Shyamalan running the show. As you probably guessed, horror fans were outraged that Shyamalan would be taking on another fan favorite. No one knew what kind of twist he would want to put on the TV series and we didn't have much information to follow in the last couple of months.
TNT never put out a statement addressing if we would be getting a 30-minute segment or a full hour of the new Tales From The Crypt. We didn't even know if we would once again be getting to see our boney little friend.
However, while at WonderCon promoting the second season of his Fox series Wayward Pines, Shyamalan took the time to talk about his work on Tales From The Crypt, confirming to /FILM that we would be seeing a Crypt Keeper in the upcoming series. At least knowing that he is trying to stay somewhat close to the source material is reassuring, but who knows what he will change:
“You know, I can’t say 100% but I’m thinking right now, where I am, if you’d asked me this six months ago I would have a different answer, but where I am right now it’s more individual Black Mirror kind of stuff right now.”
Well now that we know we'll be seeing some type of Crypt Keeper, what do you think the rest of the show will be like? Shyamalan was thinking of doing season-long stories, only changing them every juncture. But now he's leaning toward the show being more like the original, with different short stories in each episode.
Let's hope he keeps leaning that way and not another way, like The Last Airbender — no-one wants that, especially not me. What do you think of M. Night Shyamalan taking on a cult classic like Tales From The Crypt? Do you think he will do the show justice or will he change it so much that fans won't even recognize it?
