Melissa Etheridge has revealed that she seriously considered using her close friend Brad Pitt's sperm to have a baby with her then-partner Julie Cypher, but the reason why she chose not to is an adorable testament to Brad's dedication as a parent.

Back in the depths of time when Brad was still married to Jennifer Aniston, Etheridge was looking for a sperm donor to father her children and, although she ultimately chose David Crosby as the father for her kids, she seriously considered Pitt as a candidate.

Although her daughter Bailey Jean (now 19) and son Beckett (now 17) were not fathered by Brad, rumors were abound for years that he was their biological father and now it has been revealed that it was actually a close call. Etheridge spoke out about the gossip and said:

"Well actually, [Brad Pitt] was such a good friend of mine, and we did consider it. And yet, I looked and I saw how badly he wanted children and I thought, ‘I don’t want to share this with someone who really, badly wants children because my children don’t need another parent – they have two. Of course, my teenagers now are like, ‘I could have had Brad Pitt [as my dad]!’ My son said, ‘I could’ve been amazingly handsome!’ “

Awwwwwww!

Although I'm sure the kids are still a bit gutted about missing out on those glowing genes, it's totally adorable that it was Brad's passion for becoming a father to his own brood that made them decide against him as a candidate.

Of course, now Brad is the patriarch of one of the biggest broods in Hollywood and Melissa and Cypher got to make their dream of a family a reality so everyone won. I love a story with a happy ending!

Who would your ideal Hollywood sperm donor be?
