A man was arrested in North Carolina last Tuesday for failing to return a Tom Greene DVD, but the 44-year-old comedian himself has come forward to stop one of his fans getting fingered as violently as Freddy.
But, before we continue, I know you all have a particular sausage-based song stuck in your head right now so let's get that out of the way before I continue:
As enjoyable as that scene is to the chortling 14-year-old within us all, clutching it close to your heart (or, more realistically, festering down the side of your bed) for 14 years is a tad excessive and the Concord Police Force seemed to agree.
In what must have been a particularly slow day for policing, James Meyers was put in handcuffs after cops discovered an outstanding warrant for his arrest pertaining to an unreturned VHS rental from 2002.
Meyers's Freddy Got Fingered fail was uncovered by police when he was pulled over for a broken taillight when he was driving his daughter to school, and the forgetful DVD renter thought they were joking at first, he explained to local station WSOC TV that:
"The officer said, 'I don't know how to tell you this but there's a warrant out for your arrest from 2002. Apparently you rented the movie Freddy Got Fingered and never returned it.' I thought he was joking."
After promising to turn himself in later that day, Meyers was allowed to continue to drop his daughter off to school before returning to the police station to receive his obligatory time in handcuffs and charged with failure to return rental property, which is a misdemeanor punishable by a fine of $200.
Luckily, Green himself heard about the surreal situation and personally volunteered to save the dude a few bucks.
After Tweeting the above, Green spoke out to New York Daily News and explained he totally intended to pay the fine on Meyers's behalf, the comedian said:
"If it's 200 bucks of course I'll pay it for him, just for the principle of the thing."
So, he might not have seen him on the big screen in forever, but Tom Green still has his fans's collective back.
Do you think the 'Freddy Got Fingered' fine is totally ridiculous?
