CBS Films and Lionsgate are teaming up for Patriots Day, a thriller based on the horrific 2013 Boston Marathon bombing.

The cast so far includes Mark Wahlberg, John Goodman and J.K. Simmons, and has now added Michelle Monaghan to the list, who is said to be portraying Wahlberg's wife.

The film is set to be directed by Peter Berg (Battleship) and written by Matt Charman (Bridge Of Spies), and it follows the account of former Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis. Producers include Wahlberg, Scott Stuber, Dylan Clark and Michael Radutzky.

Patriots Day tells the events leading up to the bombing and then delves into its aftermath, when the FBI, Watertown Police Department, Boston Police Department, Massachusetts State Police and local first responders embarked on a citywide manhunt to track down the suspected bombers.

The film is aiming for a December 21 release, so prepare yourself with a box of tissues — my guess is this one will be an action-packed tearjerker.
