(One 'Batman v Superman' spoiler rears its spoilery head near the end of this article. You've been warned.)
With the precision of a bullet fired by Deadshot, Warner Bros. has unleashed a new international trailer for Suicide Squad, while Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice continues to draw phenomenal numbers globally (it had the best ever March Monday at the US box office this week).
Those who saw Dawn Of Justice and complained that it was so relentlessly miserable they're suing DC for their therapy bills should be satisfied by Suicide Squad which, while also dark in concept (Amanda Waller literally implants a bomb in the necks of the Squadies, hence the name) at least feels upbeat in tone, in a twisted way.
Anyway, check out the new international trailer, which is basically a cut-down version of the second full-length trailer with some additional footage interspersed:
So what do we learn from this new-not-new 90 seconds of madness?
Most notable are brand new shots of Katana (Karen Fukuhara), the master swordsman employed as Rick Flagg's personal bodyguard. Killer Croc (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje) appears to be squaring off with Katana in a moment of tension among the Squad.
The actual nature of Croc's powers in the movie is something of a mystery, but you wouldn't like his chances against Katana's Soultaker (yes, her sword has a name, and yes, it's badass).
What else is new? There are some extra shots of the Joker, in one of which he's wearing a particularly sparkly suit. We also see more of El Diablo's pyrotechnic abilities, which look pretty f*cking awesome. That's about it.
One bad guy we don't see anything of is Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg). If you've seen Dawn Of Justice (this is your final spoiler warning...) you'll know that Luthor finds himself imprisoned at the end of that movie, which you might think would be the perfect opportunity to give him a cameo of some kind in Suicide Squad, but if that's happening they're being super-secretive about it. Fingers crossed.
So there you have it. Not much, but just a little something extra to tide us over until the final proper trailer. Right now, this movie looks more DC-does-Deadpool than Justice League: The Bad Guys Version, and for a lot of people that will be very good news indeed. Suicide Squad opens August 5 in the US.
