This week's episode of The Walking Dead did a fantastic job of setting up what will undoubtedly be an amazing season finale. With multiple people outside the walls of Alexandria, and Maggie experiencing problems with her pregnancy inside the community, we're going to be treated to an utterly heart-stopping 90 minutes (yes, that's right, the season finale is an extended episode!).
While sadly we still have a few more days to wait until we can enjoy the whole episode, AMC has released a few promos for us to feast our hungry eyes on. First up, take a look at the brief 35-second promo and then check out the extended 1-minute 30 second sneak peek below.
First up in the promo we see the gang in their RV, presumably on the way to Hilltop to get help from Dr. Carson for Maggie when suddenly the road is blocked up ahead by eight Saviors. On the ground lies a mystery hostage who has been tied up. It's not totally clear who the person on the ground is, and despite the fact that it looks like it could be Morgan, I'm more inclined to think it's someone else entirely.
Next we see Rick, Eugene, Aaron, Carl, Sasha and Abraham all get out of the RV, and Rick tells the group "we can make a deal, right here, right now." Unfortunately, the lead Savior replies "sorry, we don't negotiate."
It's worth noting that although we don't see her leave the RV, I believe that Maggie is inside, but too ill to come out with the rest of the gang.
This scene then moves into a bunch of quick fire clips. First up, we see Carl lock and load a gun — possibly the gun we saw last week with Lucille carved in the handle.
Next, Morgan is seen on a horse, probably the one that the mystery man at the farm house was looking for (for a theory on who this man was, take a look over here).
Then there's Rick and co. up against a chain gang of walkers, who are almost certainly being used as a weapon or form of protection for someone. It looks like Rick, Eugene, Carl, Sasha and Aaron are out fighting the walkers with Abraham inside the RV, probably with Maggie. There seems to be a lot of gun fire, and it's possibly some of it is coming from another group.
We see the return of the Savior that Carol shot in Episode 15 (who is named Roman), still clutching Carol's rosary beads.
There are a couple of shots of a worried looking Rick, and also this clip of what appears to be Morgan inside a building, possibly still on Carol's trail.
And then, amongst scenes of the gang carrying what looks to be a stretcher (most likely holding Maggie), we finally see him — Negan. After telling the group "Hi, I'm Negan," the promo ends with an eerie whistle. Spooky.
So, if we're to believe the (often craftily edited) promo it seems as though either Rick, Eugene, Aaron, Carl, Sasha, Abraham or Maggie could be the one at the mercy of Negan's barbed wire-wrapped baseball bat, Lucille. Of course, it's also possible that he could be talking to another group entirely. However, due to the fact that the show often takes storylines from the comic series, having Negan's victim be one of the people from the group in the RV would be totally in keeping with the source material. All in all, the promo looks jam packed and I think we should expect the 90-minute finale to keep us firmly on the edge of our seats throughout.
Right, now onto the long sneak peek! Check it out:
First up, the sneak peek starts with a sort of cold opening where we hear that same eerie whistle that the promo ends with, indicating Negan isn't far.
The rest of the sneak peek deals with Morgan on his continued mission to find Carol. After coming across a sign that reads "you are alive" he then finds a saddled horse! This is the same horse we see him riding in the promo (the one that likely belonged to the man from the farm).
He speaks gently to the horse, telling him "you are alive." But unfortunately there's something else that's still alive, and on the horse's trail — Roman, the Savior that Carol shot. The rest of the sneak peek follows the bottom half of Roman as he carries Carol's rosary beads and follows the horse's tracks. We can assume that Morgan and the horse out run Roman, at least for awhile, given the fact that we see him ride the horse along what looks to be a suburban road in the promo. Fingers crossed they're able to avoid conflict with him altogether!
'The Walking Dead' returns with Episode 16, "Last Day On Earth" on Sunday, April 3 on AMC.
