After the X-Men franchise took a dive in quality and popularity after the release of 'X-Men: The Last Stand' and 'X-Men Origins: Wolverine', it received new life with 2011's '[X-Men: First Class](tag:3567490)'. The film, set in the 1960's, introduced young versions of Professor Xavier and Magneto and reintroduced characters such as Hank McCoy/Beast and Mystique, played by Jennifer Lawrence, who this time around, received a more prominent role.
But, as it's expected with most actors in a franchise, Jennifer Lawrence was very open about not wanting to come back for more films, first saying that if Fox asked her to come back, she would know whether to do it or not:
"I want them to ask me, and then I’m just going to see how I feel in the moment when they ask. It might not make a lot of sense to a lot of people, but I feel like I’ll know when they ask. If I get a pit in my stomach and feel like I’m going to throw up, I’ll say no. And if I don’t, I’ll ask how much they want to pay me."
And a month later stating her fear for the body paint's "fumes and toxins":
"Now I’m almost 25 and I’m like, ‘I can’t even pronounce this and that’s going in my nose? I’m breathing that?"
Now, it seems she's changed her mind entirely. In an interview with Empire magazine, she stated:
“I am dying to come back. I love these movies, I love being in them. I love ensemble movies because it’s not on anyone’s shoulders."
While it can seem quite strange to have such a drastic change of heart, let's not forget the enormous audience that superhero movies have. Even though Jennifer can be considered an A-list actress, nothing can compare to the exposure comic book movies give actors.
What do you think? Would you like Jennifer Lawrence portraying Mystique in future installments? Do you like the character having such a prominent role in the X-Men franchise?
