Last year, J.K. Rowling released an illustrated edition of Harry Potter And The Philosopher’s Stone featuring more than 100 beautiful drawings by artist Jim Kay. The full-color tome was filled with charming and imaginative new takes on already beloved childhood characters.
This fall, Kay will release his second edition in the series with his take on Harry Potter And The Chamber Of Secrets. Pottermore recently released a sneak peek at some of the artwork, and I already want to stick my head deep into the pages in a Hermione-esque fashion. Take a look at a few of Kay's latest works below.
'Harry Potter And The Chamber Of Secrets' Cover
Here we can see Fred, George and Ron after they rescue Harry from the Dursleys in their father's Flying Ford Anglia. The Burrow has never looked so inviting.
This illustration is filled with information about phoenixes. For example, did you know that regurgitated phoenix pellets are valuable for their medicinal properties, but also because they sometimes contain gemstones that protect from the cold within? Well now you do!
Hagrid And Hogwarts
I'm loving these depictions of Hagrid and the castle. The spindly turrets are gorgeous, but I did imagine Hagrid's beard to be a slightly more unruly.
Gnomes And Mandrakes
Harry certainly wasn't exaggerating when he described the Weasleys' gnomes as potato-like. This closeup look at the different stages of Mandrake growth is pretty fascinating, since we only ever saw them in their infancy.
According to Pottermore, the book will feature 115 new images and will be published in over 21 languages, so Potterheads far and wide will be able to partake in the imagery.
Jim Kay's special illustrated edition of 'Harry Potter And The Chamber Of Secrets' will be available in hardcover from October 4.
