(Warning: Theoretical SPOILERS for 'Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2' lie below, albeit ones entirely based on guesswork. Proceed with whatever level of caution that suggests to you is wise.)
Now, James Gunn isn't exactly a man struck down by social media inadequacy. Between his faithful and ever-growing fanbase and his open and engaged approach to both revelations and responses, the Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 director has pretty much got online communication down.
Which is likely why it doesn't seem all that surprising that...
James Gunn's Latest Post To Social Media Might Just Be Teasing Star-Lord's Father
Or, rather, it's most definitely teasing Star-Lord's dad, but it remains a little unclear just what it's teasing in relation to him — to say nothing of whether it's actually a cunningly disguised red herring.
This is the image that Gunn posted to his Facebook page:
Which, being a storyboard from Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2, sure does seem to confirm — at the very least — a conversation between Star-Lord (whose line that must surely be) and some other folks about his parentage.
Beyond that, though, pretty much everything is supposition.
What Can We Figure Out From That Image, Though?
Well, for one thing, the furthest left of the three figures is noticeably smaller than the others, suggesting either Rocket Raccoon, or another smaller character (perhaps a child). Beyond that, it really is all blind guesswork. Those two vertical lines could easily be a beam of some sort, or perhaps simply a ray of light. Similarly, the object in the center of the room could well be a mysterious pod — but might just as readily be a plinth, a crashed vehicle or a lounging Jabba the Hutt-style creature.
All of which is pretty darned dazzling in its inconclusiveness.
But, then again, we clearly aren't actually supposed to work this one out, seeing as this was Gunn's caption for the image:
I don’t think you’ll ever guess what this one is, at least not until the film comes out (but I know that won't stop you from trying).
In other words? Keep on guessing, gang.
What do you think, though?
What do you think is going on in that there piece of storyboard art?
