Since raising over $800,000 on Kickstarter, the developers at Gun Media have been hard at work bringing their horrific vision of Friday the 13th to life. Turning the stuff of nightmares to interactive reality, the survival simulator sees you fleeing from the hockey-masked killer Jason Voorhees as he tears through Camp Crystal Lake on an indiscriminate rampage.

It's a palm-dampening prospect, but we're still yet to see much of the game in motion — how will the experience of hiding form this machete-wielding psychopath actually work? Well, Gun Media has released "a little treat for fans," showing off a brief yet terrifying snippet of gameplay that might give you an idea. Check it out:

That's certainly one way to make an entrance.

The more I see of this game, the more I dread the moment a controller is put in my hands. But seriously, this is shaping up to be a modern horror classic worthy of the esteemed movie franchise that inspired it.

And there's good news for those too impatient to wait until release date rolls around: Gun Media will be handing out early access beta codes during PAX East later this month.

For the rest of us Friday the 13th: The Game is due for release on Steam, Xbox One, or PS4 in October 2016.

Are you brave enough to return to Crystal Lake?
