[Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice](tag:711870) stepped into previously uncharted territory with its version of Batman. It introduced a Batman who already has a history and an existing universe. By the time the Caped Crusader fights the Man of Steel, he might have already crossed paths with the Riddler, Mr. Freeze, Bane, Joker and most importantly, lost a Robin.

While not many details regarding the cinematic Robin are known, going by comic book history, that suit belongs to Jason Todd, the second Robin and the vigilante Red Hood. Now Zack Snyder, speaking to IGN, has revealed new and very interesting details concerning the Caped Crusader's partner:

“In my mind, it was that Robin had died 10 years earlier, during some run-in with a young Joker. So there was a fun backstory there to play with. I felt like the whole idea was that there had been loss and there had been sacrifice. In a weird way, he had sacrificed everything to be Batman. He doesn’t really have a life outside the cave. I thought that including Robin, a dead Robin, was helping us understand that he’s been on quite a little journey.”

While he doesn't go into further details regarding Robin's identity, this information is enough to assume the A Death In The Family storyline has already occurred, perhaps not exactly as in the comic books, but the most important elements are there.

While there hasn't been an official release date announced, it's been said that Ben Affleck already has a Batman script in place. The film is rumored to be based on the Under The Hood storyline.

Do you like the new Robin's backstory? Would you be excited for a Red Hood appearance in the DC Universe?
