Spoiler Alert: If you haven't yet watched Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (seriously, what are you doing with your life?), watch it and then come back, because we will be entering spoiler territory.. Proceed at your own risk!
If you're still here then you have probably watched the movie and we can go ahead with our discussion. The review for Batman v Superman were divided. Some loved it, while some, not so much. Personally, I absolutely loved the movie. I know I'm going to get some hate in the comments for saying this.
But the movie had its flaws. Zack Snyder made a few mistakes along the way. The biggest one of them is killing off a major character.
No! I'm not talking about him..
I'm talking about him..
Confused? Well, let me explain!
I'm not talking about the death of Superman. We all know that Superman will comeback somehow because you can't simply have a Justice League movie without Superman, let alone two. And if you have read Zack Synder's interview about Superman's death, you know it kind of made sense for Superman to end up in a grave. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Zack Snyder said:
"I wanted Bruce Wayne to build the Justice League. With Superman around, it’s a different conversation when you create the Justice League, right? It’s like, ‘Me and Superman, we want to make a Justice League.’. Bruce Wayne having to go out and find these seven samurai by himself, that’s a lot more interesting of a premise."
But just because Zack Snyder killed off Superman, it wasn't necessary for him to kill off Clark Kent. Yes! I know that Superman's death implies death of Clark Kent. But what I'm trying to say is he should have kept Clark's ceremony low profile without making it public. In a scene, we saw Perry White with a newspaper in his hand, the front page of which read, "Superman Dead" and then we saw him turn the page of the newspaper. There was an article about Clark Kent's death. The article could've been "Clark Kent Missing" or something like that. But making Clark's death public was a bad move. Superman will come back inevitably. But they can't just bring Clark back from the death. And even if Zack Snyder brings back Clark Kent, won't people ask questions about how both Clark and Superman are both back from the death at the same time?
But if Snyder decides to keep Clark in the grave, what new alias would Superman take then? Because Clark Kent IS Superman. Superman can't be someone else. And whatever alias Superman decides to take, everyone would easily recognize him as Clark Kent.
Well, Zack Snyder, if you're reading this, I want you to know that the movie was great, but how will you get out of this mess?
Was it a wise decision to kill Clark Kent off?
