Breaking Bad's Aaron Paul has recently returned to regular programming with his new Hulu series The Path premiering this week, but fans of the AMC series are still reeling over the fate of his beloved character Jesse Pinkman.

Since the start of AMC's Better Call Saul, we've seen a number of familiar characters appear on screen. During an interview today with SiriusXM's Entertainment Weekly Radio, Paul revealed that he's also been in talks to make an appearance in the Breaking Bad spinoff series:

"They kind of threw some ideas at me. Like, 'What if? What do you think about this?' So the conversations are definitely there, but it has to make sense for the show. They're not just going to throw Jesse in the mix just so the fans can say, 'Oh, look, it's Jesse walking in the background.' It needs to make sense to the show."

Since Better Call Saul largely takes place years before the events of Breaking Bad, this could pose an issue for 36-year-old Paul:

"It takes place years before Walt and Jesse ever came into the mix. So how old would Jesse ... be. Middle school? High school? I don’t know. It would be pretty great to see Jesse in that skin."

These are all valid points. But I think that showrunners Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould have proved that when it comes to making great television, where there's a will, there's a way.

So when could Jesse make his return to the Breaking Bad Universe? Paul unfortunately left that question pretty open-ended:

"Maybe this season. Who knows? Maybe."

Hopefully we'll have Jesse Pinkman show up sometime soon. It would be nice to see him so young and hopeful in his career as a drug slinger. I say bring it on, bitch!

'Better Call Saul' airs on Monday nights on AMC.
