Sean Young's struggle to become Catwoman has been well documented, but the eccentric Hollywood star is still convinced she could drag in the big bucks in the box office if she were given the chance to wriggle into the iconic PVC catsuit.
Young, who is famous for attempting to ambush Tim Burton in full Catwoman garb to persuade him to give her the role, relived the experience to The Hollywood Reporter and explained she still thinks she has what it takes to be purr-fect for the role, although producers aren't creative enough to see it. When asked what Burton thought of her appearance on the set of Batman Returns, Young told interviewers:
"He wasn’t there. I guess he was hiding in the bathroom. Who knows? If these Warner Bros. executives now were really good businessmen, they’d let me play Catwoman today, and I’d make a smash amount of money. But they’re too stupid. You can lead people to water, but you can’t make them great artists. Nobody wants to take that risk, it’s too scary. If they’re wrong, it can cost them their job. If there were really good businessmen over there, it’d be an obvious no-brainer, but I’m not running the studio."
The Batman franchise hasn't been fortuitous for Sean and she also managed to land the role of Vicki Vale before breaking her arm during rehearsals and being replaced by Kim Basinger. The Hollywood Reporter told Sean they thought the move seemed harsh by today's standards, and Young didn't mince her words when she replied:
"If [producer] Jon Peters had wanted me I think they could have shot around it. I think he just had a hard-on for Kim Basinger. He had a good excuse to let me go and hire her. It hurt me, but that’s show business."
Despite the fact that Young lost out on her dream role in the Batman franchise, she has dressed up as Catwoman multiple times, including this slightly surreal appearance on the Joan Rivers Show below.
Who do you think Sean Young would make a killer Catwoman?
