The news we have all been waiting for – Microsoft finally responds to Xbox 1.5 rumours and speculations.
Last week, PlayStation announced that they were developing a new PlayStation unit that would co-exist alongside their record-breaking PS4. The new unit or PS4.5 (PS4K) is apparently being developed to cater specifically to the exploding VR market and to allow for an increased level of fidelity in day to day gaming.
Today, Xbox chief, Phil Spencer took the opportunity to address the rumours that suggest that Microsoft will now also be planning to release a 4K version of their popular console.
Will we see an Xbox One.5?
Phil Spencer has stated that at this point there are no plans within Microsoft to develop an Xbox 1.5. He went on to explain that he is “not a big fan of Xbox One and a half. If we're going to move forward, I want to move forward in big numbers".
He continued by stating that Microsoft is focusing on what their current console can do not what it can’t do. The chief believes that the Xbox One is currently coping very well with the VR market.
"For us, our box is doing well. It performs, it's reliable, the servers are doing well. If we’re going to go forward with anything, like I said, I want it to be a really substantial change for people--an upgrade."
So, as it stands we are not likely to see an Xbox 1.5 anytime soon. This is not to say that we will never see one. Spencer did not say that this is not an eventuality.
The PS4.5 (PS4K)
In other news surrounding the Sony Playstation 4.5 – new details have emerged that suggest that the machine already exists. According to Digital Foundry, the hardware has already been made and is functioning well
Should Xbox make an Xbox 1.5 or should they stick to their guns and when the time is right to release the Xbox Two?
