As a budding actor or actress, landing a role on a Disney Channel original is a pretty big deal, not necessarily because it's the most dignified way to demonstrate your acting skills but more so because of the major likelihood that it will catapult you to stardom later on. Let's take a look at a few textbook examples: Miley Cyrus with Hannah Montana, Vanessa Hudgens with High School Musical, Hilary Duff with Lizzie McGuire. Need I go on?
It's no surprise that the network is inundated with audition tapes every single day, flooding in from young performers all over the globe that share the same dream. Appearing on the Disney Channel may be an honor but it certainly doesn't come easy, and once upon a time, the stars we now know so well were only a tiny part of a huge crowd chomping at the bit for a coveted job with the House of Mouse.
We've all got to start somewhere, right? Here's a roundup of first auditions from some of Disney's greatest prodigies, and you won't believe how far they've come.
1. Miley Cyrus For 'Hannah Montana'
This one is such a gem. Miley has always been seriously sassy and this clip proves it. We can totally see why the Disney execs wanted to bring Billy Ray on board as her on-screen dad too — how cute are they?!
2. Jonas Brothers For The Disney Channel
Before JONAS was even invented, the Jonas boys were one step ahead of the game and already showing off their skills to the producers. It's nice to see Kevin come out of his shell in this one and Joe clearly had the moves even back then.
3. Selena Gomez For 'Wizards Of Waverly Place'
Selena's audition for Wizards is seriously impressive. With talk of her previous acting success on Barney And Friends, her close relationships with friends and family and a couple of cheeky comments, she covered all the bases that Disney was looking for.
4. Debby Ryan For 'The Suite Life On Deck'
Starring on The Suite Life was a dream come true for Debby and by the looks of her audition tape, she totally deserved it.
5. Demi Lovato For 'Sonny With A Chance'
Back in 2007, Demi was just a girl with a dream, following in the footsteps of her BFF Selena by auditioning for the Disney Channel. Little did she know she would go on to star opposite the Jonas Brothers in much loved musical, Camp Rock.
6. Ross Lynch For The Disney Channel
Before landing a leading role as Austin Moon on Austin & Ally, Ross was already winning over the Disney execs with his audition just to be on the channel. It's not hard to see why they later let him have his own show — what a cutie!
