Update: By now the scene in which Negan kills one of the principal characters from TWD has been filmed. If you want to speculate more on potential spoilers for The Walking Dead Season 7 you might also want to check out our one one comparison from the trailer to the comic books.

The Walking Dead fans are gnashing their teeth like a pack of gut-hungry biters after being robbed of the conclusion to the Season 6 finale's biggest mystery: who did Negan kill with his wire-encrusted baseball bat?

There is literally no way of finding out who bit the bat — unless we kidnap Greg Nicotero and make him listen to Beth's singing until he tells us. There's not even any point hoping for leaked scenes, as Nicotero hasn't even filmed that part yet. He told THR:

''We have not filmed it yet and I don't know if the person knows yet or not. Knowing the fact that any death changes our characters and changes our people in a very dramatic way, what's exciting about season seven is how a death — any death — changes people and propels us into a different direction. While we were shooting this episode, I'd never seen the cast more energized and more excited about the future of the show. The fact that the world is our oyster right now is exciting time for The Walking Dead. We're changing the direction of the show and bringing Negan in, it's a great time. Everyone is so excited to get back to work [in May] to get where we're going.''

Was the fade-to-black with nasty brain-squelching sound effects a way to cut back on the gore as well as preserving the mystery? Nicotero says NO:

''I don't know if anything is considered too graphic on our show. That was obviously planned. Having the point-of-view shot looking up at Negan when that happens and then going to black — it's something that we've done a couple times on the show but just hearing that continue without seeing it, it really just puts it in the audience's head.''

Hmmm... I think comic book Michonne and The Governor may well disagree that nothing is "considered too graphic" for the show; they both got a much a easier ride on the TV version!

If you haven't already, vote for who you think Negan killed in the Walking Dead Season 6 finale — just think of the bragging rights in six months time when you're proved right!

Dammit, who did Negan kill?
