It would seem that Naughty Dog developers have something exciting to tell us about The Last Of Us 2.
With Uncharted 4 almost upon us, development work is virtually complete. Now with a little room to breathe, creative director Neil Druckmann thought that now maybe the best time to address those Last of Us 2 rumours we were all so obsessed with last year.
Director Neil Druckmann has confirmed that "Yes," they were indeed working on prototypes for The Last of Us 2 but were forced to stop development plans when production on Uncharted 4 was scheduled.
"Before my partner, Bruce [Straley] and I, my directing partner, came on to Uncharted 4 we were working on prototypes for different ideas within The Last Of Us universe,"
Here comes the exciting bit. Druckmann went onto to state that once production had been officially completed on Uncharted 4 – which will not be long now - himself and Bruce Straley were set to head back to the Last of Us 2 drawing board.
"Our next focus is the single player [Uncharted 4] DLC and then, once we have enough resources, resurrect all those prototypes; see where we’re at, see where the teams at, what they’re excited for and go from there."
The Last of Us was a true milestone for console gaming – the stunning visuals combined with the enthrawling narrative provided players with an experience like no other. Never before had we been so immersed in a world accessed via a controller. It was beautiful – to put it simply.
A thought echoed across the globe, The Last of Us received universal acclaim and went on to be one of the most successful games ever released on Playstation. So, The Last of Us 2 is a no brainer, surely?
Although, this is not concrete confirmation, Druckmann certainly doesn’t seem to be hiding any agenda here. It is looking extremely likely that the next chapter of The Last of Us could finally be coming to Playstation.
But, where would it go?
The possibilities are endless, the original ending does allow for a direct sequel but I guess anything I say here will just be speculation.
