Former Community co-stars Joel McHale and Chevy Chase are about to become further entwined in Hollywood history, as the former has signed on to portray the latter in Netflix's upcoming A Futile And Stupid Gesture, a biopic about Douglas Kenney, the troubled co-founder of National Lampoon and co-writer of comedy classics Animal House and Caddyshack.

Kenney and Chase were close friends and collaborators — as evidenced by Chase's turn in Caddyshack — and the actor was present during the trip to Hawaii that ended in Kenney's tragic death following a descent into drug abuse and depression.

A Futile And Stupid Gesture stars Will Forte as Kenney and Star Wars: The Force Awakens' Domhnall Gleeson as Henry Beard, another National Lampoon co-founder. Directed by Wet Hot American Summer's David Wain, the movie is scheduled to start production this month.

Don't worry, it's understandable if you're feeling a little mind blown by the idea that Jeff Winger is going to be portraying a young Pierce Hawthorne.
