Season 6 of The Vampire Diaries saw the departure of leading lady Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev), awkward stoner turned heartthrob hunter Jeremy Gilbert (Steven R. McQueen) and brooding werewolf Tyler Lockwood (Michael Trevino) and now it looks like another main cast member has decided its time to leave - Kat Graham who has played leading witch Bonnie Bennett.
Don't fret too much though, Bonnie's departure will not happen until the end of Season Eight and we'll still have Graham giving outstanding performances as Bon-Bon still has plenty of emotional trials ahead of her.
With dealing the loss of her bestie Elena through the Sleeping Beauty Curse and the hurt of Damon abandoning her after nearly dying to save him, Bonnie has since been admitted to a witch mental institute and began a romantic relationship with anti-hero vampire Enzo in Season Seven - so it'll be interesting to see how Bonnie's story arc reaches its conclusion by Season Eight.
"Season 8 will be my last season," Kat told Us Weekly. "I just hope that whatever I do after, the crew can come with me. If the crew can come with me, then we'll be good. The crew is going to be the hardest thing to let go, because we are a family."
However, it looks like Bonnie is going to be coming back stronger and Kat is excited for fans to see what's in store for her character.
"There's some really intense stuff with my character this season," she said. "I think the biggest episodes I've ever had are 20 [airing April 29th] and 21 [airing May 6th]. It's pretty major for the character — huge turns, a lot of stunts and cool sh*t!"
With Dobrev's exit, the writers kept the character of Elena present by putting her in a magical coma and linking her life to Bonnie's - meaning when Bonnie dies, Elena will reawaken as a healthy 20-year-old human. Dobrev and series Executive Producer Julie Plec have both confirmed Elena will return for the final episode of the entire series, but how this will be written with Graham's exit is yet to be revealed.
With the renewal of TVD with a Season Eight, could this be the build up to the Series Finale or do the Salvatore Brothers have a Season Nine and Ten left in them?
I personally love the darker and more mature tones Season Seven has brought to the screens with its writing, directing and acting and although its sad to say Kat is leaving in 2017, it'll be exciting to see how the writers continue her story in Season Eight.
It's safe to say Kat has a bright future in her acting career, but I sincerely hope Bonnie gets her well-derserved happily ever after - meet a great guy, get married, have beautiful children and live to be a happy elderly woman.
How do you feel about Graham's planned departure after Season 8?
