Starwars.com has confirmed that the first teaser trailer for the highly anticipated spinoff Rogue One will air on Good Morning America tomorrow, Thursday April 7. This news comes literally just two days after the release of The Force Awakens on home video. It may suggest that Lucasfilm and Disney will now be planning to shift marketing focus onto the film. The secrecy surrounding Rogue One has been tight and arguably more successful than on The Force Awakens. As the home video release marks one of the last promotional waves of that film, all attention can now be put onto Rogue One.
This will be the first stand-alone film in the Star Wars universe that is not part of the main saga trilogies. Rogue One is set to take place just before the events of A New Hope and deals with the rebel group that stole the Death Star plans. The principal cast includes Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Donnie Yen, Mads Mikkelsen, and Forest Whitaker. Disney and Lucasfilm are planning to release more spin-off films such as a young Han Solo story directed by Christopher Miller and Phil Lord. Disney's release schedule for Star Wars seems to be one film every year with a spin-off released in between each of the main saga films.
