Considering Gareth Ennis created The Boys with the intention to "out-Preacher Preacher," it seems apt that Preacher producers Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg have now signed on to adapt its dark, violent and messed up younger comic book sibling.

Along with Neal Moritz, the trio will produce the series for Cinemax, a network known for not holding back. And, quite frankly, a lack of inhibitions is essential for any adaptation of Ennis's depraved source material.

Set in a world where superheroes develop super-egos and a tendency to overindulge in their celebrity status, "the boys" are a CIA squad who keep a close eye on those with super-powers.

Filled to the brim with sex and violence, Ennis' series really pushes the boundaries. Below are seven of the most f*cked up storylines in the comic, which could be coming to a TV screen near you soon:

7. Nazi Scientists And Synthetic Drugs

Nazi Scientists are responsible for creating a drug, Compound V, which has interesting effects.

Often taken when mixed with cocaine (nicknamed "blue"), the drug is responsible for giving its users superpowers. The only downside is that the side-effects include horrific mutations. Always read the small print.

In one storyline, it is also discovered that the drug is administered to prostitutes following intercourse with a superhuman, to allow them to recover.

6. It's Not Who You Know, It's Who You Blow

Starlight — the alter ego of evangelical Christian Annie January — is coerced into performing an oral sex act on the depraved Homelander in an attempt to become part of "The Seven," an elite, well known collection of superhumans.

5. Not The Kind Of Homecoming You'd Want

The character of Homelander is a murderous, perverted creep. If you thought the above act was bad, it gets worse; in one scene set within the White House, he commits a sex act on the dead president's corpse.

4. There Are Also Numerous Rape Scenes

Starlight, who we met earlier, is the victim of an attack by another superhuman, A-Train. However, she fights him off and A-Train ends up blind in one eye.

As well as this scene, the wife of one of "the boys," Butcher, is also raped by that guy again, Homelander.

3. One Villain, Tek Knight, F*cks A Giant Vagina-Wielding Astroid To Save The World

When the murder of a young gay man is investigated, the boys are led to Tek Knight. They discover he has the bizarre compulsion to, erm, fornicate with any orifice that presents itself to him.

The end of the comic sees rock-hard Tek Knight have an end-of-life hallucination in which he saves the world from extinction by diverting an asteroid by having sex with it. Really.

2. A Group Of Superhumans, The G-Men, Have A Horrific Backstory

It's uncovered that all the members of the group were abducted as children and injected with Compound V to manifest their powers.

The founder of the group, Godolkin, as well as other members, also sexually abused the children.

1. An Entire Mini-Series, "Herogasm," Is Pure Filth

The first standalone miniseries shows what goes on behind closed doors for the superheroes. Generally, as you may have guessed by now, it's pretty sordid; on a specific lewd retreat, the superheroes attend and commit salacious acts, take drugs and generally go wild.

Have you read 'The Boys'? Do you think it'll make a good TV show?
